In Home & Community Aide
Minnesota, Minneapolis / st paul, 55401 Minneapolis / st paul USAI'm in need of a personal attendant who will be working with me 18 to 23 hours a week. The reason for the uncertainty about the # of hours at this time is because we're waiting on the county to grant permission for the extra time. 18 hours is assured but we think the extra 5 shouldn't be a problem. By the time of your hire we may have the hours determined, as of now though, IDK. I have a service provider you'd be hired through and they'd pay you at least a rate of $19.50 per hour.
The person whose hired will need to meet a certain criteria that is set by me, and I'm very fussy. There needs to be an uplifting of my quality of life. This means you need to be quite intelligent, have my best interests both in mind and heart at all times, and be able to teach me things. If you don't know what I want you to know, we'll need to learn them together, thus, mutually uplifting each other. If the matter is complicated, that means we go slowly, but we don't give up, even if we get frustrated.
You'll of course, due to the nature of the role, need to submit to a background check, not to me, but to the company you'd be hired by. Again, this is all professional and above board. There's to be no funny business here and if you feel more comfortable meeting initially out in the community for the interview, that's understandable. But you'll be working with me out in the community and in my home. Most of the time, it will be here at home.
I've had 3 head injuries, the first of which was very early on in life. However I'm witty, have a B.A., and don't settle for 2nd best. So the person hired needs to be on their 'A' game at all times and "on my side," looking out for and motivating me, even when I'm not at my best.
I'm very clinically complicated, and we'll get into all that as we go along. I live alone and have done so my whole life. I'm looking for the right person who can help me get and stay motivated to do things to allow goal attainment. Then, to make realistic expectations of new goals, aim to meet them, and to rise.
I have a CADI waiver, and case management services. You'll get to know and become familiar with all of that through the course of your on boarding process and training with the company being used which is a legitimate agency licensed by the state of MN. Moses will be your person of contact with the company and I guess he'd think of himself as your boss, but I'm ultimately the one hiring you.
I would ask for a 2 year commitment. This of course, if unable to be met, would be up to you. If you feel I'm too disruptive to you're way of life, (which I sincerely don't think I'd ever be) I am not going to stand in your way of departure. But I would be quite hurt. So the right person is important, you'll likely be someone whose in pursuit of an MSW, or a Human Services degree, or something similar. There would be a request of you to be flexible in the hours worked if possible. No early morning's. Unless you're up to them.
So what will be in the role and what will the tasks you'll be doing. I need 5 hours a week of in home cleaning. That's set in stone. That's to help keep me organized, which uplifts and aide's (aid's?) my mental health, which I struggle with. So this is part of my difficulty. Motivating, and training to stay on task.
I have 8 hours per week approved of in home staffing with training. This is the next block of time. Training consists of helping me overcome mental obstacles of doing the difficult but mundane things that are ordinary to people who haven't had 3 head injuries. There won't be arguing. This isn't going to be a tug-of-war or any verbal judo. It will be you mentioning that you've noticed that a shower needs to be had or asking politely why an appointment was missed. Or why hasn't the mail been opened, and can we work on this or that, please? Maybe let's work on this goal today, perhaps?
I will have my down days and I am, as are we all, emotional creatures. We all get upset at times. So this needs to be said. When I am emotional, or upset, sad, or angry, I will never attack you as a person. I do engage in S.I.B. or Self Injurious Behavior. Some people find that hard to watch, and others do not. This depends on personality I suppose. But NEVER will I EVER go about hurting another human being. I value my freedom. It's far too precious to me. I will never be locked up because of an assault to anyone. I'm very careful about this and am in complete control regarding my temper, so when it comes to times when I'm upset, there's no need to have or be in any fear of your safety. AT ALL. EVER.
That leaves the other 5 to 10 hours. This consists of helping me do things in the community like getting to the gym on a regular basis, this is very important, I want to get into the best shape of my life. going shopping for healthy foods, eating out, having fun at my workshop, (I'm a woodworker) setting up, cutting, mitering, sanding, staining, blah, blah, right? I want to have you help me live a better life. I'd also like to think it's a mutual arrangement.
Ok So, all this being said, I'm very picky as to who I allow in my home. If you've read all this and are still interested, first, I'm surprised, 2nd, THANK YOU, & 3rd, what to do to get in contact:
I've left the right information specifying how to go about reaching out to me. I'd like you to email me, leaving me your name and #, let me know if you've done this kind of work before, what interests you about the job, level of education (which is important but not necessarily a deal breaker) and we'll see if we can find a match for the both of us. From there I will call you to set up a day and time to arrange a meeting and will do so before 7pm.
Thank you so much.
