HIL Simulation Engineer – Restraint Systems:

Algorithm Development and Applications Group (ADAG)

Job Description:

ZF produces an array of crash-sensing Restraint Systems which minimize occupant injury during vehicle crash events. Multiple sensors (including acceleration, angular rate, pressure, occupant status, radar, camera) are sampled and conditioned to determine when and with what force to deploy Restraint System elements, using vehicle / occupant-dynamics-based algorithms. ADAG develops the algorithms and vehicle-specific calibrations for the features of these systems, including Front, Rear, Side, and Rollover Collision Detection/Classification, Pedestrian Collision Detection, Occupant Classification all used to manage specific single / multi-stage airbag deployments, seat belt pretensioning, collision event data recording, and emergency call notification. The Hardware in the Loop (HIL) Simulation Engineer will work within a global team of algorithm, software, and tools specialists to produce algorithm / calibration software releases. These releases are provided to application project teams, supporting deliverables to customers (vehicle manufacturers). This position will support set-up and maintenance of HIL laboratory test stands, as well as test plan development and execution, utilized to verify system performance on crash-sensing application projects.

Primary Responsibilities
  • HIL Lab infrastructure support: Support Mathworks/dSPACE-based HIL test stand set up, including debugging and integrity verification. Work with application team members to define HIL and ECU configuration requirements per test environment. Support physical modifications of the HIL HW to achieve test setup requirements. Verify test setup capability to support scheduled tests. Troubleshoot and resolve setup issues, utilizing available data acquisition equipment, including oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. Adapt test stand automation SW and execution scripts to support defined test plans. Collaborate with global expert team on HIL architecture optimizations and other improvements.

  • Firing performance HIL Test execution and results reporting: Execute and report HIL validation of ECU system performance utilizing provided test plans and input data, in support of performance calibration release test plan. Modify HIL stand setup as necessary to achieve test plan goals.
  • Algorithm SW HIL Verification Support: Execute and report HIL verification of algorithm requirements on the ECU system, and characterize performance-critical system behaviors, utilizing provided test plans and input data. Perform signal latency measurements, and other SW and safety architecture verification tests as defined in the Algorithm Integration test plan. Perform regression tests in support of algorithm release verification plan.

  • Test Results Analysis and Communication: Conduct preliminary analysis of test results to confirm test setup validity. Provide generated data and results summary reports to the test requestor. Conduct test results review meetings with stakeholders, support traceability and archiving requirements of the development process.

Qualifications:

  • 3-7 years of experience with Restraints, Powertrain, Brake Control, ADAS or other embedded automotive controller system.
  • Experience or university coursework in Embedded Systems, Analog and Digital Electronics, and Data Aquisition
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Matlab/Simulink, C/C. Familiarity with Perl and Python programming languages a plus.
    • Vector CAN & LIN tools (CANalyzer, CANoe) or equivalent (NeoVI).
    • Testing / debugging embedded systems and electrical circuits using in-circuit emulators, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes
    • Embedded system Hardware-In-the-Loop tester setups and test case development
  • Working knowledge of PTC Integrity, DOORs or equivalent tools
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering / Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Team Player

Cover letters are encouraged.
