Michigan, Ann arbor, 48103 Ann arbor USABioinfo-Comput Biologist InterApply NowJob SummaryWe are seeking a bioinformatics specialist to join the translational research laboratories of Dr. Shilpa Kodati and Dr. Jessica Turnier at the University of Michigan.Dr. Turnier is a Pediatric Rheumatologist, and her research focuses on understanding the biochemical and cellular pathways underlying skin and systemic inflammation in juvenile myositis and lupus.Dr. Turnier's lab applies molecular and bioinformatic approaches to analysis of biosamples from a longitudinal cohort of juvenile myositis and lupus patients to better understand treatment response and develop novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers.Dr. Kodati is a uveitis specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon. Her laboratory group studies autoimmune-mediated and infectious diseases of the eye including uveitis. The goal of her work is to better understand the molecular pathways underpinning uveitis in order to facilitate more targeted therapies. Her group utilizes clinical samples and performs techniques such as single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing, and proteomics analysis.We are looking for commitment from a motivated individual who enjoys collaborative translational science and desires to contribute to research in a team-based environment.The applicant is expected to be well versed in the scientific process, with sufficient knowledge of lab-based research processes to inform analytic pipelines. The applicant should have familiarity with immunological techniques such as flow cytometry, primary cell culture, RNA isolation, molecular cloning and Western blottingApplicants will be expected to utilize existing pipelines to analyze data and work with our team members and collaborators to build new analytic pipelines.Applicants will have the opportunity to complete their own projects, and interfacing with graduate and undergraduate students in various aspects is expected, and assistance with other projects at the discretion of the PI's is also expected.Mission StatementMichigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally. Responsibilities
Perform cleaning and analysis of data generated from studies run by lab investigators; these may include primary data, as well as data from large databases, such as GEO.
Writing programs to clean data and perform statistical analyses in R and/or Python, including the use of Seurat or similar.
Formulating and implementing statistical analysis plans tailored to specific project needs
Design computational approaches to analysis of patient-oriented bioinformatic datasets
Documentation and presentation of analytic results
Creating data visualizations for data briefs, manuscripts, or presentations
Ability to learn new pipelines and write code as needed
Posting of datasets to public databases to facilitate data transfer after publications are completed.
Attend relevant lecture series, research conferences, lab meetings and journal clubs
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field related to bioinformatics, computational biology or computer programming.
Demonstration of substantial analytic independence and figure generation for manuscripts is expected.
Desired Qualifications
A Master's degree in a bioinformatics related field is highly desired.
