ResponsibilitiesThe Research Lab Specialist Associate candidate will be expected to perform the following critical functions and techniques:
Data management for the research project will include metabolic study data, hormone assays, and the data conducted from the experiments.
Perform tasks independently with minimum supervision
Maintain thorough experimental records and protocols
Perform laboratory techniques as required: rodent handling and assays, genotyping, ELISA assay, PCR, qPCR, microscopy imaging, and cell culture
Have basic responsibilities including general laboratory duties (dishwashing, labeling, preparation of solutions), data collection including maintenance of samples, analysis (graphing and statistics), quality control, and involvement in manuscript/grant preparation. Experience with clinical sample handling would be of benefit.
Provide laboratory management support, ordering, updating animal and assay protocols, and keeping electronic files of animal and chemical inventory
Work well independently and as a member of a highly collaborative team with undergraduate students, graduate students, fellows, and other post-doctoral students.
Maintain detailed and organized research notes, write research manuscripts and grant proposals.
Be actively engaged in collaborative studies which the Singer Lab is engaged in with other laboratories across the University of Michigan.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in biological/animal science, microbiology, health or related field of study
3 years of related work experience
Specific skills in human blood sample handling, metabolic studies and immunology assays (flow cytometry, flow sorting, cell culture)
Lab experience in molecular and cell biology techniques including cells and tissue processing, tissue sectioning, DNA/RNA isolation, and microscopy skills
Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a team environment
Excellent communication skills (writing and speaking)
Proactive, have excellent time management skills, and be meticulous in record keeping
Ability to work independently and take initiative to problem solve
Excellent attendance, ability to prioritize appropriately and exercise good judgment
Compliance with University research policies and procedures
The applicant will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary, highly collaborative research team that interacts with other laboratories across the University of Michigan.Desired Qualifications
Five or more years of lab experience
Master's degree in biological/animal science, microbiology, health or related field of study preferred
Experience managing the daily operations of a research lab under the delegated authority of the PI
