Chemistry is a core capability in Small Molecule & Drug Discovery with innovative scientists working in medicinal chemistry, radiochemistry, analytical chemistry, and large-scale synthesis. Within SMDD our Lead Discovery and Optimization (LDO) team is responsible for high throughput screening, compound storage and distribution, primary assays to support discovery programs, and compound profiling to explore drug liabilities in vitro. LDO scientists discover and adopt cutting edge assay technologies that utilize state-of-the-art automation to drive speed and efficiency. Our Molecular Structure and Design team embraces novel approaches to computer-aided drug design, machine learning, and structural biology. The integration of these disciplines provides a seamless and highly interactive environment for discovery scientists to learn, develop, and innovate. Working in partnership with our disease area experts in the Thematic Research Centers provides an exciting pathway to discover and deliver medicines to patients in need.Leads Discovery & Optimization (LDO) is a dynamic organization that supports the entire drug discovery continuum (from lead identification to clinical candidate delivery) at Bristol Myers Squibb. The organization leverages state-of-the-art technologies, complemented by deep subject matter expertise and broad scientific knowledge, to deliver innovative and comprehensive preclinical in vitro datasets to support our drug discovery pipeline in disease areas such as oncology, immunology, and cardiovascular diseases.We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist with a cell culture and cell-based assay background to join the Biochemistry, Cellular and Mechanistic Pharmacology team in Cambridge, MA. This individual will design, validate, execute, and interpret novel cell-based assays supporting the BMS portfolio. This individual will be able to work on cross-functional drug discovery teams, closely interacting with colleagues from different functions, including chemistry, biology, and in vitro pharmacology. In addition, the candidate will collaborate within LDO and across project teams to help shape the in vitro screening strategy, identify appropriate assay detection formats, and develop high throughput assays using cutting-edge automation platforms. The ideal candidate will have a solid hands-on experience in HTRF, luminescence, Fluorescence, ALPHA technology, MSD, FACS and qPCR assay formats. Prior experience in running a high-content imaging assay is a plus. This is a laboratory-based position.Duties/Responsibilities:

Collaborate with colleagues across research teams to develop high-quality cell-based assays and adapt these assays for high-throughput formats

Execute routine cell-based screening assays to ensure rapid data delivery

Analyze, interpret, and effectively report data at team meetings

Troubleshoot assays to ensure high-quality control

Interface closely with disease biology colleagues to ensure assays and screening efforts are aligned with the scientific project goals

Lead efforts to identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies and methods that push the boundaries of complex cell-based screening

Interface with Informatics and automation colleagues proactively to drive the evolution of screening platforms and warrant adequate maintenance of the cell-based assay infrastructure

Key Experiences and Qualities :

Demonstrated hands-on experience in developing various functional cell-based signaling

assays in primary cells and engineered cells

Experience with automated liquid handlers, plate readers, software and robotics, is highly desirable

Expertise in databases, data analysis & analytics, and specialized analysis tools is preferred

Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot experimental problems independently are required

High content image screening and flow cytometry platforms experience is a plus

Self-motivated and a proven ability to work in a multifunctional team setting

Detail-oriented and highly organized

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability and desire to master new skills, methods, and technologies that enhance departmental capabilities

Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree and 4+ years of academic / industry experienceOrMaster’s Degree and 2+ years of academic /industry experiencePreferred Qualifications:

MS degree in molecular biology, cell biology, pharmacology, or a related field

MS with 2+ years of relevant research experience in assay development & execution, preferably in drug discovery in industry settings

Highly self-motivated & fueled by a fundamental interest in contributing to science in general and drug discovery in particular
