Massachusetts, Boston, 02108 Boston USAEstablished by Showa Women’s University of Tokyo in 1988, Showa Boston Institute of Language and Culture is a residential academic institution hosting about 250 students at any one time. Its mission is to increase students’ English proficiency, develop cross-cultural awareness, and foster personal growth. Its 40-acre campus rests on a hilltop overlooking the Boston skyline. At the heart of the campus are educational facilities, dormitories, administrative offices, and a dining hall.
Position Summary
The General Maintenance/ Groundskeeper role will perform general maintenance of the campus grounds and interior maintenance duties such as supporting the facilities staff with general repairs, moving furniture, updating campus offices and etc. during inclement weather or upon request from the Facilities Supervisor and/or the Director of Facilities.
Essential Job Functions:
Oversee grass mowing, trimming and edging, removal of weeds and daily policing of the grounds, mulching, mulching, collecting leaves and refuse, spreading seed fertilizers as required.
Operate grounds-care machinery in a safe and professional manner. Follow the Facilities Director or supervisor recommendations for proper handling.
Perform oil changes, tune-ups and small general repairs as needed of grounds’ equipment.
Responsible for the removal of snow as facilities staff, and are required to be available at all times for the shoveling/plowing of snow/ice from the facilities' roads, walkways and stairs to ensure a safe environment for the staff and students.
Report for interior maintenance duties during inclement weather, or upon request from the Director/Supervisor as required.
Maintain and track supplies for grounds keeping to verify proper materials are available to perform the duties.
Observe all safety rules, regulations, and precautions in performing the duties overall.
Perform other duties as requested by the Facilities Director or Supervisor.
Skills
Experienced and knowledge of proper operational tools and equipment in grounds-keeping trade
Knowledge of safety precaution in use of equipment and chemicals
Knowledge of lawn machines maintenance and repairs
Mechanical skills and the ability to use hand tools
Requirements:
2-3 years of experience in grounds work
Ability to perform manual labor, including frequent lifting, carrying, and transporting equipment
Must be able to work independently
Must be able to use all types of lawn equipment
High School diploma or GED and a valid Massachusetts driver’s license
Required to be ALICE Trained (Showa Boston provides necessary Training in-house)
