Raytheon is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to support NASA's EOSDIS Evolution and Development 3 (EED-3) program based out of Riverdale, MD, which provides critical Earth Science data for climate researchers world-wide. This position supports the maintenance and evolution of the EOSDIS ECS, CMR, Earthdata, and NGAP systems - key components of NASA's Earth Science mission. These systems run on a Linux platform and are implemented largely in Java, Ruby and C. The ideal candidate will be a highly enthusiastic team member excited about learning new technologies and continually evolving an operational system. In this position the intern will have the opportunity to have hands-on development of new system capabilities supporting climate research.Responsibilities to Anticipate:

Ability to design, develop, and maintain new software functionality

Ability to work with previously written code and make modifications as necessary

Ability to work closely with other disciplines (systems and test engineers) to troubleshoot and fix problems

Enthusiastic and energetic performer able to work in a dynamic, fast paced, and sometimes pressured environment

Team player incorporating a team-based success philosophy

Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of his/her immediate supervisor

Ability to follow established SW processes and procedures, development, documentation and maintenance/management of operations concepts, requirements (system, element, segment level), external and internal interfaces, and other software engineering work products/artifacts

Basic Qualifications:

Must be Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Post Graduate by the start of summer 2024 in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a computer science focus

Good communication skills and the ability to work with other software engineers in a structured team environment

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with shell scripting, Perl, C, and Ruby on Rails

Experience with database applications such as PostgreSQL and Oracle

Experience with Cloud environments and DevOps

Familiarity with Agile development
