The Island Innis an iconic seasonal hotel (established in 1907) and restaurant located 11 miles offshore of Mid-Coast Maine on beautiful Monhegan Island - an unspoiled nature lover's paradise of woods, cliffs, and rocky shores, and a small community of lobstermen and working artists. Most of Monhegan Island is preserved as a conservation area with 12 miles of hiking trails around the highest headland cliffs on the East Coast and endless rocky coves.

Our 60+ seat fine-dining restaurant serves breakfast and dinner to very loyal hotel guests and the public. The kitchen staff also supports production for a separate coffee shop/café and preparation of varied and nutritiousmeals for our staff of 30 employees.

We passionately utilize the bounty of the coastal terrain, as well as cultivate our own gardens and greenhouse with a variety of organic and heirloom produce and micro-greens.

The Island Inn’s restaurant has just one mission: to deliver a unique take on coastal cuisine paired with our magical setting in order to create a memorable and relaxed fine dining experience for our guests. Our kitchen and restaurant staff is at the heart of our continuous effort to offer superlative food quality and the highest level of gracious and personal guest service. JOB DESCRIPTION

We're searching for a skilled, energetic, highly motivated Lead Line Cook with a passion for hospitality and fine dining, who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

This position is responsible for all aspects of food preparation up to and including final presentation for delivery to guests. The Lead Line Cook’s primary responsibility is to support the Head Chef in delivering dishes that meet the highest preparation and presentation standards. He or she is also expected to be able to run the line with respectful leadership when assigned.

Food preparation tasks include the preparation of stocks and other basic tasks, as well as protein fabrication, soup and sauce making and other techniques. The Lead Line Cook will also actively participate in refining and executing all menu items with the Head Chef. Will clean work area and kitchen during and at the end of shift; Must be comfortable with both taking direction and initiative as needed.

Education:High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Culinary training is desirable but will consider appropriate and varied experience as a substitute in all cases.

Required Experience:

Minimum 5 years culinary experience;(or) equivalent combination of education and experience, Must includeLine Cook experience in a medium to high-volume fine dining environment.

Excellent understanding of, and experience in, various cooking methods, creative use of fresh ingredients, equipment, and procedures

Experience in and mastery of all major line areas (grill, sauté, oven)

Must be able to perform in a fast-paced, team-driven kitchen

Must be able to commit to working the entire 2024seasonthroughOctober 14, 2024
