Serve as the trusted advisor for assigned supply base.

Assess potential suppliers via on-site Quality Audits process control implementation and effectiveness. Validate process capability.

Drive implementation of Lean, BIQ, and APQP, continuously reviewing supplier capacity.

Continuously review production readiness through rigorous review of Supplier PPAP submission.

Collaborate with suppliers to assure proper process control standards are in place and continuously monitor key manufacturing processes for improvement opportunities.

Provide technical support during start-up activities and provide ongoing strategic support.

Will be responsible for the supplier’s processes from design concept to the end of the product life.

Review APQP documentation and participate APQP Process Control Documents for suppliers’ manufacturing processes.

Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of technology developments and trends for guidance of commodity teams in advancements of design, quality, and manufacturing.

Support and participate in 6 Sigma initiatives with facilities, category teams, and suppliers.

Responsible for the review, approval, and validation of 8D permanent corrective action plans.

Participate in the development of Supplier quality metrics.

Coordinate with engineering personnel on matters regarding Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD), New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) teams; prove design to production, engineering changes, deviations, supplier designs, specification approvals, meeting cost reduction goals, and participates in the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) process with suppliers manufacturing processes.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree related to Quality, Engineering/Technology, or similar with 5 or more years of relevant experience OR an Associate’s degree in Quality, Engineering/Technology, or similar with 7 or more years or relevant experience OR 10 or more years of relevant professional experience.

Engineering or manufacturing background with familiarity of fabrication, machining, and/or assembly processes used to produce components and assemblies.

Knowledge of shop operations and maintenance procedures.

Good human relations/communication skills as well as possess the potential for leadership is required to develop a cooperative working relationship with others both inside and outside of Caterpillar.

Solid ability to use and demonstrate statistical and problem-solving tools.

Top Candidates May Have:

Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology, or similar.

American Supply Quality (ASQ) quality certification.

Cooling/heat transfer experience.

Experience with fabrication, machining, and/or assembly.

APQP knowledge

This position can be located in Mossville, IL or Lafayette, IN.

Travel is likely up to 25%.
