This professional will be part of the growing BV Planning Solution focused on Communities & Ecosystems, working with a wide range of public and private clients. Their role will be to provide technical excellence to deliver resilience-related projects with opportunities to engage with clients and support business development.With a focus on developing BV’s presence in the resilience market, this professional will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to strategize and implement climate adaptation/mitigation, vulnerability assessments, hazard mitigation planning, coastal and sea level rise strategies, funding and partnership development, and resilient infrastructure system solutions.The TeamWithin our U.S. Business, we have seen consistent growth driven by our clients’ needs to address challenges stemming from climate change, increasing system vulnerabilities, coastal impacts and sea level rise, aging infrastructure, resource optimization, emergency response, carbon sequestration, risk mitigation and recovery. The State of California & the Pacific Northwest are leading the country in sustainability, resilience, and climate action. With climate challenges like wildfires, droughts, and coastal erosion, these regions are prioritizing climate adaptation, nature-based solutions, and resilient infrastructure, all aligned with B&V’s services. We anticipate increased focus on resilience and infrastructure hardening, systems thinking and planning, sustainable and resilient strategies, and nature-based solutions. This role represents a strategic business initiative for Black & Veatch, and the position is designed to help the company grow its market share by providing world-class resilience planning, design, and implementation services.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Delivery:
Lead and coordinate hazard mitigation, climate adaptation, and resilience planning client services
Lead client and stakeholder workshops
Provide task leadership and expertise to deliver Resilience Planning solutions/studies/projects
Strategy & Innovation:
Support regional strategy development, market assessment, and network
Cultivate innovative partnerships to leverage new technologies and approaches
Provide market insight on regional drivers and mandates for community resilience
Identify and develop innovative processes, methodologies, and products to improve and expand BV’s service offerings
Pursuits:
Engage directly with new and existing clients to develop new business for BV, in close collaboration with BV project managers, client directors, and client account managers
Lead and support proposal development
Represent Black and Veatch at local and regional networking events and conferences
Team Development:
Support recruitment, mentorship, and growth of the team to broaden resilience-related capabilities and establish a regional team
Preferred Qualifications
15+ years of climate resilience experience related to adaptation, disaster preparedness & recovery, coastal and sea level rise impacts
Experience with stakeholder coordination and facilitation
Experience in assessing social vulnerabilities and identifying equity priority communities.
Experience with Federal approaches and tools to assess risks (i.e. FEMA’s Hazus risk assessment platform) and provide hazard mitigation, climate adaptation, disaster recovery, and resilience strategic planning and implementation
Familiarity with federal, state, and local funding sources related to resilience
Minimum QualificationsMinimum of 3 years' experience performing duties similar to those of an Environmental Scientist 5.
