Resource Patient Care Assistant
Kentucky, Lexington, 40502 Lexington USAOverviewAs a Resource Patient Care Assistant at CHI Saint Joseph Hospital, you’ll have a unique opporutnity in helping our patients feel safer and more comfortable by assisting with their basic daily life activities.Your success in this role comes from your genuine desire to help patients feel better, whether that means giving them fresh bed linens or checking their vitals. You’re diligent about your tasks, flexible with sudden changes, observant of patients’ conditions improving or declining, and you’re eager to learn. We count on our Resource Patient Care Assistants to be flexible where needs arise knowing that you'll be gaining a vast range of experience in various clinical units.Key Responsibilities:
Check-in with the outgoing patient care assistant at the beginning of your shift to get a report on your patients.
Conduct hourly rounds on approximately eight patients, checking vitals, maintaining whiteboard information, and assisting with care as needed.
Assist patients with ambulating as necessary. This may mean helping them reach a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom, or down the hall. Assist released patients in getting safely to their vehicles outside.
Assist patients with hygiene needs. This can include a full bed bath, an assisted bed bath, or retrieving towels and soap for ambulatory patients.
Help the bedside nurse as needed, such as: holding the patient, assiting with wound checks or dressing changes, providing the nurse with supplies, and cleaning up after.
Change bed linens, check patients’ weight, other tasks as assigned each day.

They provide assistance in transporting, transferring and lifting. They perform cleaning Functions in patient care unit as delegated, and perform selected diagnostic tests.ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff
Monitors and records vital signs
Assists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs
Accurately measures, records, and reports intake and output
Obtains and records daily weight
Performs blood glucose testing using blood glucose meter
Reports changes in patient’s status promptly to RN
Performs as patient care companion when needed
Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge process
Performs unit housekeeping needs
Acts as a runner/transporter
Checks and documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated, reporting variances to appropriate personnel
Updates assigned bed status
Maintains a safe environment by responding to all bed alarms, call lights, telephones and alerting the correct person.
Keeps patient environment clean, performs comfort rounds, keeps hallways clear of obstruction, no food or drink at the workstation, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safety precautions
Communicates with patient’s family, physicians, and unit personnel and peers in an accurate, courteous, and professional manner
Other duties as assigned by manager

High School Diploma/GED
Required Licensure and Certifications:
BLS
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:
Good written/oral communication skills
Completion of PCA orientation/training CBO checkoff
One (1) year direct patient care experience.
