Job Title:Sr Intraoperative Monitoring Technologist I, NeurophysiologicalDepartment:NeurologyShift:1stFull/Part:Active Regular FT (72 to 80 hours per pay period)Specialty:NeurosurgeryJob Number:2021-0143Job Description:We are seeking a highly motivated, well organized and detail-orientedSr. Intraoperative Monitoring Technologist I to join our Neurophysiological Intraoperative Monitoring Services department at Rush University Medical Center!General Summary :The Sr Intraoperative Neuromonitoring Technologist (surgical neurophysiologist)performs all activities necessary for monitoring of standard intraoperative neurophysiological functions pertinent to the patient's surgery as requested by the surgeon or anesthesiologist.Under indirect supervision of the Director performs evoked potentials, EEGs, topographic brain mapping and EMGs involving cranial nerves or muscle groups. Monitors for multiple surgical services when the nervous system is at risk for injury. Train's and supervises staff technologists and entry level staff under the direction of the program director.Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and ICARE values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.Position Responsibilities:Apply basic IONM principles during surgical procedures under the supervision of the director, or senior intraoperative monitoring technologist, or higher staff member.

Helps set up monitoring equipment and the patient while assuring patient safety.

Communicates effectively with team members.

Utilizes hospital training to alert supervisor and/or activate hospital systems per established protocols when encountering patient clinical issues.

Performs appropriate neuromonitoring under close indirect supervision, demonstrating appropriate skills via both written and oral assessments.

Undergoes quarterly reviews by both the program director and education and program manager in the following areas:Basic anatomy and basic neurophysiology as related to IONM studies.

Knowledge of operating room standard protocols for sterility and communication; surgical instruments; hospital policies and procedures & equipment

Other duties as assigned by Director.

Position Qualifications Include:Bachelor's degree (preferably in the biological sciences or related field) required.

R.EEG, R.EP certification is an acceptable alternative to a bachelor's degree

CNIM certification & keep CNIM certification active

Minimum of 5 years in IONM

Knowledge of IONM modalities, basic anatomy, basic neurophysiology and operating room standard protocols for sterility and communication as it relates to IONM studies.

Good verbal, written, communication & interpersonal skills

Must be competent in monitoring changes in central and/or peripheral nervous responses and brain functioning during surgical procedures and responding appropriately.

Must be able to distinguish artefactual changes from clinically pertinent situations.

Must demonstrate good, competent skills and sound judgement in professional practice while caring for the child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient specific to the clinical requirements.
