Illinois, Chicago, 60601 Chicago USADescription:JOB ANNOUNCEMENTSUPERVISOR OF ACCOUNTINGDepartment of FinanceEnterprise Auditing DivisionNumber of Positions: 1(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)Starting Salary: $94,500.00Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on 11/04/2024Under general supervision, functions as a supervisor directing the work of professional staff in an accounting unit and performs related duties as required.ESSENTIAL DUTIES Assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of professional accountants engaged in the management of financial accounts, including but not limited to compilation of financial reports and preparation of financial statements and audit schedules. Supervises the auditing and reconciling of financial accounts, ensuring that Airport revenues are accurately invoiced and cash receipts are appropriately applied. Reviews the preparation of account receivable cash receipt applications for completeness and accuracy and provides direction to staff on items that need to be corrected in timely manner. Update and verify that rates are properly setup per billing instructions (BI) and semi-annual rates and charges. Follow up and resolve pending billing issues in timely manner. On a monthly basis, review and reconcile Airport invoices from AR (invoice register) to activity reports submitted by tenants to ensure accuracy in invoice generation. Develop goals, objectives, and work standards and conducts staff performance evaluations. Conducts and coordinates staff training and development. Reviews daily deposits to ensure proper funding is allocated; approves deposit transmittals and verifies that cash receipts are properly applied. Designs and implements computerized accounting systems spreadsheets and internal controls to ensure operational efficiency. Interprets accounting principles and financial procedures as they relate to governmental accounting and reporting. Coordinates the conduct of audits performed by private firms and government agencies; coordinates the preparation of replies to auditors' findings and develops processes and procedures to implement audit recommendations. Applies knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards in accounting and financial reporting. Prepares and coordinates various schedules identified by external auditors in their “Provided by Client” (PBC) request lists for the City’s Annual Comprehensive Report (ACFR) audit and settlement audits. Functions as a liaison on accounting-related issues to the City Treasures’ Office (CTO), City Department of Aviation (CDA), and external auditors.Additional duties may be required for this position.Location: Department of Finance, 121 N. LaSalle St., Chicago, IL 60605Days: Monday - FridayHours: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PMTHIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICEQualifications:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a directly related field with 15 semester hours in accounting, plus four years of professional accounting experience of which one year is in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, provided the minimum degree requirement is met.NOTE: You must provide your college or university transcripts with 15 semester hours of accounting courses at the time of interview.IF YOU FAIL TO PROVIDE this information at the time of interview, you will not be allowed to proceed with the interview and will no longer be considered for this position .SELECTION REQUIREMENTSThis position requires applicants to successfully complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following: Previous experience in accounting and financial reporting Previous experience with financial statement preparation, bank account and general ledger reconciliations Previous supervisory experience including training, evaluating, and monitoring professional staff performance in a financial environment. In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) procedures Proficiency using Microsoft Excel and accounting softwareAPPLICATION EVALUATION: Initial evaluation will be based on information provided on the application and the documents submitted.
