Aviation Interior Finish Technician
Idaho, Boise, 83701 Boise USAJob SummaryThe Finish Technician applies pre-mixed coatings to well-prepared interior aircraft parts; applies wood finishes such as stains and high-build clear topcoats to newly refurbished woodwork; performs touch-up and repair of interior wood cabinetry.Duties & Responsibilities
Performs high quality repairs to various finished surfaces in the shop and aboard aircraft. Cleans and polishes blemishes as needed to prepare the surface for new finish.
Applies UV activated grain fill and finish to surfaces using spray equipment and other manual/mechanical methods.
Cleaning and prepping materials for finishing, including mechanically stripping prior finishes, sanding and filling to prep for finish.
Applying various fillers, resins, epoxy, and related products to prepare materials for finishing.
Formulates color matched stains to match existing finish.
Set up and use spray gun for proper application of urethane, enamel, water base and epoxy paints.
Touch up woodwork with brush, airbrush, and spray gun blend-in techniques.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Job Requirements
A minimum of 5 (five) custom cabinet or furniture finishing or 2 (two) years’ experience in aircraft interior finish application. Artistic background for faux finishing a plus.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to use power operated machinery.
Ability to work to specifications with an extremely high attention to detail.
Ability to work individually, with a healthy sense of urgency to provide a quality product.
Ability to perform highly physical work duties including climbing and bending at the waist, crawling, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and working at heights, Reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally.
Ability to pass physical exam required to wear protective respirators.
Other Prerequisites
Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
Ability to obtain Airport Issued security badge
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work is performed in an aircraft hangar environment with moderate noise level. The employee is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
