Our Harm-Reduction Opioid Treatment Program is seeking dedicated Counselors to join our
compassionate and motivated staff.
Position: Harm-Reduction Counselor Location: 173 S. Kukui Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813
Schedule: 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
About Us:
Our program is committed to providing evidence-based methadone treatment to individuals
seeking treatment for opioid use disorder. We focus on harm reduction strategies, client-centered
approaches, and fostering a safe and nonjudgmental environment.
Role and Responsibilities:
As a Harm-Reduction Counselor, you will play a crucial role in supporting our clients’ journey
towards recovery. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Individual Counseling: Conduct brief one-on-one counseling sessions with clients to
address their unique needs, goals, and challenges related to substance use and harm
reduction.
2. Education: Educate clients about harm reduction techniques, overdose prevention, and
safer substance use practices.
3. Case Management: Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team of counselors, nurses,
and doctors to develop personalized treatment plans and to help motivate clients to self-direct clients to seek out additional resources (housing, employment, mental health
services, etc.).
4. Documentation: Have some computers use skills to learn to use a Methasoft software
program to maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, progress, and
treatment plans, basically eliminating paper.
Qualifications:
We value personal experience and a commitment to helping individuals to gain harm reduction
from their opioid use disorder. While formal certification or licensing is not required, we are
looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:
Experience: Previous work with substance use disorder clients is essential. Additionally,
personal experience with substance abuse recovery of at least two-years is highly valued.
Compassion: A genuine desire to support clients without judgment and a belief in their
capacity for positive change.
Availability: Ability to work the specified schedule (6:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday,
Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday).
Legal Standing: Due to the nature of our work, we cannot hire individuals currently on
probation or parole.
