James Beard Award-Winning chef Roy Yamaguchi’s grandfather, Rokuro Yamaguchi, was a trailblazer who immigrated to Hawaii to work in the plantations. He later became a successful entrepreneur and businessman, opening the Yamaguchi Store (AKA the Humble Market Kitchin) and several tavern-like restaurants in Kihei and Wailuku.
