Georgia, Rome, 30161 Rome USADescription We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant for a contract opportunity with a company in the government industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of comprehensive audit activities, financial management duties, and the provision of financial advice and recommendations. The Senior Accountant will be highly knowledgeable in government accounting principles with a strong focus on accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with national standards.Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage all general ledger accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Coordinate and execute annual audits in compliance with state and federal laws.
Prepare, maintain, and analyze budgetary reports for various government programs and activities.
Lead the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, reports to stakeholders, tax returns, and reports for government regulatory agencies.
Assess current practices and policies, offering recommendations for improvements and implementing new processes where necessary.
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely submission of financial data.
Guide junior team members and conduct performance evaluations.
Coordinate with external auditors, manage the process, and communicate results promptly to relevant parties.
Collaborate with upper management to devise and implement strategic financial planning.
Participate in forecasting procedures and activities.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master’s degree or CPA is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably within the government sector.
Knowledge of governmental accounting standards, financial procedures, and legislation.
Demonstrable experience in managing audits, legal compliance, and budget development.
Excellent knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong analytical abilities, detail-oriented, and high level of accuracy.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to guide and motivate team members.
Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, in order to effectively communicate complex financial information to non-financial colleagues.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize duties, and meet deadlines.
