What you get to do:


In support of the VP, Rides & Engineering, provide corporate oversight and direction for the design, engineering, performance, and operation of electronic control systems for all SEA parks. Lead appropriate park disciplines in a collaborative effort to ensure the continuous safe operation of all amusement ride control systems.
Reports to the Corporate Vice President, Rides & Engineering.


  • Drive the design and corporate support of electronic control systems for rides, buildings (BAS), energy management, animal life support, and other related systems within SEA Parks. Advance key technical initiatives regarding control system design, assessments, decommissioning of older systems, and/or upgrading older systems to current technology.
  • In support of Corporate VP, Rides & Engineering, evaluate control system operational and functionality issues within SEA parks, collaborate with park resources to implement resolutions for safety and operational concerns, as well as explore opportunities for improved systems efficiency, reliability, and effectiveness.
  • Develop and support the standardization of control system design, performance, and technology within SEA parks, and manage the risk assessment efforts for SEA’s rides and attractions. Organize communication between SEA and control system entities, including ride manufacturers, to ensure consistent controls processes and standardization across parks. Collaborate with SEA Information Technology group on emerging technologies, shared resources and processes, as well as opportunities to improve the overall safety and security of industrial level electronic control systems.
  • Develop & maintain key industry relationships with amusement ride vendors, specialized control equipment producers (Rockwell Automation, Siemens, etc.), control system integrators, and specialty consultants (i.e., life support system design consultants, building/energy management providers, etc.). Tour & inspect vendor facilities to assess operations and quality control.
  • Support new attraction development efforts by researching ride related issues & alternatives, thematic/special effects elements, as well as technical and engineered systems. Oversee design, installation & start-up of rides, effects and control systems. Support technical aspects of SEA project management.
  • Stay current on and provide SEA representation to industry standards and/or code committees. Examples include ASTM F24 Committee on Amusement Rides & Devices, AIMS (Amusement Industry Manufacturers & Suppliers), NAARSO (National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials), or others as appropriate.
  • Position reports to Vice-President, Rides & Engineering.
  • Position is accountable for the operation of electronic control systems within ride, building, and processes at all SEA parks.
  • Position is accountable for strict adherence to established project and department budgets & schedules.
  • Position is based in Orlando, Florida.


What it takes to succeed:


A highly motivated professional whose attributes include the following:
  • Excellent communication skills – oral & written.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Technical & functional knowledge of amusement rides and associated systems, including control systems and risk analysis.
  • Technical & functional knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Technical & functional knowledge of industrial and safety-rated electronic control systems, including hardware and software, as well as proprietary Rockwell Automation and Siemen’s control system architecture, software, and equipment.
  • An active Professional Engineering License is preferred
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or other related discipline.
  • Master’s level degree in an engineering, construction, or business field is preferred.
  • Five years combined experience in a technical service, engineering, and/or project management field in a major theme park environment.
  • Five years of experience with industrial or ride/entertainment control systems.
