The Work You Will Do : This is a highly technical and professional position working for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Division of Waste Management. The incumbent is responsible for providing scientific and technical support in the implementation of statewide programs for the assessment and remediation of contamination sites under the Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP). Your Specific Responsibilities : The incumbent is required to be registered in the State of Florida as a certified Professional Geologist. The duties of this position include the following activities:

Reviews and evaluates technical documents related to contaminated site cleanup including site assessments and risk assessment. Prepare approval documents with professional certification statements. Works with engineering staff in evaluating remedial action plans.

Develops Statements of Work (SOW) and associated Task Assignments for cleanup contracts. Provide technical review and quality assurance of SOW.

Evaluate Risk Management Options and prepare site rehabilitation documents as outlined in FDEP rules, policies, and guidance.

Negotiates necessary changes to assessment work including decisions for ongoing fieldwork. Prepares change orders for adjusted costs and timeframes. Reviews and approves invoices for completed work.

Performs input and tracking of cleanup data into electronic data management systems. Monitors assessment and rehabilitation progress at assigned facilities and evaluate consultants’ performance of cleanup activities in a cost-effective and timely manner.

Responds to information requests from government, co-workers, private entities, consultants, and the public sector concerning program/project activities. Perform site inspections for assigned facilities and oversight of assessment-related fieldwork.

Participation in FDEP and FDOH-Pinellas meetings workshops, and teleconferences . Completion of mandatory training courses and able to travel out of county for PRP conferences. Maintains annual HAZWOPER Certification.

Meets or exceeds SMART performance expectations including but not limited to the FDOH – Pinellas Core Standards and PRP contractual metrics.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge of contaminated site cleanup techniques and methods, including monitoring well construction, soil and water sampling and analysis, and Chapter 62-780, Florida Administrative Code.

Knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, chemistry, and Florida soil and groundwater

Ability to evaluate comprehensive technical documents.

Skill in problem solving and effective use of available resources.

Effective communication skills in both written and verbal forms.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with government agencies, consultants, storage tank industry, and the public sector.

Ability to set and meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and work independently.

Skill in the use of desktop computers and software including MS Office, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Windows Operation system.

Qualifications :

Must be a Florida Licensed Professional Geologies (Chapter 492 Florida Statues)

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in geology, environmental science, or one of thein one of the natural sciences.

At least one (1) year experience related to storage tank regulations or waste cleanup assessment and remediation.

Must have a valid Florida Class E Driver License

Must have OSHA HAZWOPER Certification or the ability to complete the training for certification within one year of hire.
