Position #: P20472Full-time: 40 hoursSchedule: Monday through Friday from 10:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.Pay: $17.53 per hour plus an additional $1.00 per hour as a night shift differential hourLocation: Main Campus, 3700 “O” Street, Washington, DCJob OverviewThe Carpet and Floor Care Specialist performs general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe and pleasant physical environment. They perform other tasks as assigned and with specific guidance from supervisor – for example, snow and ice removal, clean up associated with water or fire damage and special event support. They are expected to clean up to 28,000-35,000 square feet of cleanable space per eight hour work day, using standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade and observance of all safety rules, regulations and precautions.Work InteractionsThe Carpet and Floor Care Specialist reports directly to one of the Custodial Supervisors/Managers, and may report indirectly to a Night Operations Manager depending on the shift assigned. They work alone and with others, performing essential or non-essential tasks as assigned by supervisor; and also perform assignments made by the Custodial Services Supervisor/Manager and/or the Night Operations Manager.Under certain circumstances, including but not limited to emergency snow removal, spills and flooding, the Carpet and Floor Care Specialist performs assignments made by the Work Management Center, the Director of Facilities Management, the Resource Manager, the Infrastructure Manager and other department managers.The work of the Carpet and Floor Care Specialist constitutes a direct service of the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work. They represent the department with the University community and its visitors and is expected to behave in a professional manner, keep informed of departmental and University policies, regulations and guides pertaining to employment obligations, including complying with attendance and clock in and out on time, working with other University Facilities staff as part of a team, and being flexible with schedule to accommodate emergency situations, such as staffing shortages and snow removal.Qualifications

High school diploma or high school equivalency - preferred

1 year of custodial work experience - preferred

A valid and current driver’s license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia

Basic knowledge of English, including the ability to read, write and speak English with understanding in order to read and understand product label instructions and University policies and procedures

Ability to clearly relate custodial and maintenance problems to supervisor and/or the Work Management Center
