Maintenance Mechanic I

What You Will Do:
1. Building Mechanical Systems Maintenance, Repair, Installation:
Install, maintain, repair, and operate building HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, pneumatic, hydraulic, steam and hot water boilers, hydronic and closed loop heating and cooling systems, and other Facilities equipment and instrumentation on demand or as prescribed by preventative maintenance schedules
Monitor and adjust chemical levels in water treatment systems: System Operator - Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, Building Automation Control (BAS) systems
2. Emergency Response and Critical Systems Maintenance:
On-Call shift rotations - Maintain availability for on-call duty with other mechanical maintenance team members according to UCAR’s On-Call procedures (Additional compensation applies for on-call activity).
1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift work, including weekends and holidays, may apply.
Maintain ability to respond to building infrastructure emergencies, assess conditions, and take appropriate corrective actions.
Install, maintain, and operate temporary mechanical infrastructure systems during emergencies or construction events.
Attend regular safety and incident response training for mechanical system operations and repair.
3. Small Projects (<250K) - Construction Services:
Install, modify, and repair mechanical equipment and systems as needed. for facility remodels, including sheet metal and ductwork installations.
Report labor and materials to the project management team or project lead.
4. Perform general administrative, safety, and housekeeping duties:
Maintain work certifications, records, and logs to comply with all State, local, and federal regulations.
Participate in online or live attendance safety training and skills training.
Participate in equipment operator training as needed.
Who We’d Love to Join Our Team
Education & Experience:
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 2 years of technical school or applicable apprenticeship training.
A journey-level worker with 4 years experience in a facilities maintenance program, commercial or industrial experience in the mechanical trades, or equivalent education and experience.
Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s license and a driving record compliant with UCAR’s liability insurance requirements.
Possession of a current, valid, EPA-approved certification for the use, servicing, recovery, and disposal of CFC-containing refrigerants and equipment (EPA Section 608, Type II, III or Universal).

Experience with Siemens Desigo CC
Active NATE certification
OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Industry Course Certificate
Specific experience with Building Automation or Energy Management systems
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required):
Working knowledge of DDC building control systems
Working knowledge of boiler system operations
Working knowledge of refrigeration system operations
Working knowledge of plumbing system repair and operations
Skilled in reading and comprehending machinery diagrams, building layouts, and operations flow charts
Demonstrated skills using hand tools, power tools, ladders, personal protective equipment, and other tools and equipment standard in facilities maintenance work
Ability to work safely and produce craftsman-like results
Demonstrated skills in understanding and acting on verbal and written instructions
Able to lift and carry fifty (50) lbs. twenty (20) feet
Ability to work on scaffolds and climb ladders up to forty (40) feet
Willingness and ability to perform shift work to respond to an after-hours emergency call in, work with other crafts and work in environments outside of normal duties as needed
