Prepress Operator & Digital Press Operator

D&K Printing (dkprinting.com) in Boulder is renowned for the quality of our product and customer service. Our beloved, longtime Prepress/Digital Press Operator is retiring. We are looking to add a team member who can train under him, then effectively take-over and complete the tasks outlined below.

Summary: Prepare customer provided files for proofing, plating, and printing. Knowledge of desktop publishing applications and the ability to run digital press. Previous experience in the Prepress Department of a print shop is preferred, but we are happy to train anyone with the willingness and eagerness to learn.

Tasks:

Read work order as well as all notes and instructions.

Use preflight software to check incoming work, to determine if all elements of the job conform to specifications.

Identify missing/corrupt fonts, and replace, if possible.

Identify missing images, and inform Account Representative.

Perform basic troubleshooting

Communicate concerns found in preflight procedure.

Output printed and PDF proofs.

Make offset printing plates.

Work directly with the Account Service Representative/customer as necessary.

Maintain good relations with other departments and customers.

Maintain all equipment related to the department.

Skills required:

Knowledge of fonts.

Knowledge of preflight software (XMF)

Knowledge of desktop publishing software (Creative Cloud)

Knowledge of our printing processes (digital and offset).

Job Qualifications:

Has a thorough knowledge of printing operation, including offset printing, digital printing, die cutting, pre-press and pre- and post-production functions.

Knowledge of Macintosh and Windows operating systems.

Previous experience or education in Graphic Arts.

Demonstrate good attention to detail.

Demonstrate effective communication skills.

Basic troubleshooting skills.

Work effectively without direct supervision.

Work overtime as needed.
