The Role
We're looking for a Maintenance Manager who can be the bridge between our high-end design work and excellence in ongoing care. This isn't about mow-and-blow—you'll be maintaining beautiful, creative gardens that deserve thoughtful attention.
This role is the perfect mix: 50% hands-on field work, 50% strategic planning and management. You won't be stuck behind a desk or only in the field—you'll get to do both, adapting as the workload demands.
What You'll Do:
Lead and mentor a 2-person maintenance team (with room to grow)
Perform hands-on maintenance work including fine garden care and irrigation repairs
Take on occasional small project work as needed
Schedule and coordinate maintenance across multiple high-end sites in the East Bay
Ensure quality control—these gardens are works of art, and they should stay that way
Build and maintain client relationships with professionalism and care
Manage equipment, supplies, and maintenance operations
Help shape systems and processes as our maintenance division evolves
Balance hands-on garden care with team management and planning
Be the connection point between our design team and ongoing site care
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm
Work Environment: Flexible mix of field work, office time, and remote work options
What We're Looking For
Required:
3+ years of landscape maintenance experience
2+ years in a management or leadership role (or equivalent experience)
Horticultural knowledge and a love for plants
Bilingual Spanish/English (fluency is negotiable, but communication ability is key)
Valid driver's license
You're Great At:
Communicating effectively with team members, clients, and leadership
Paying attention to details
Customer service with a genuine, friendly approach
Problem solving on the fly
Wearing many hats and adapting to what the day brings
Managing your time when things get busy (this role can be fast-paced!)
Using technology and apps for scheduling, communication, and job tracking
Bonus Points For:
Any horticultural certifications (ISA, landscape industry credentials, etc.)
Experience with high-end residential or fine garden care
Knowledge of sustainable landscape practices
