Field Service Technician

California, San francisco bay area 00000 San francisco bay area USA

Full-time

We have immediate openings for Field Service Technicians who are self-confident, have experience with mechanical and hydraulic repairs, and are able to follow instructions when nobody is looking. Our company repairs vehicle service equipment, which means vehicle lifts, oil dispensing systems, air compressors, tire changers, exhaust extraction systems, and anything else you might find in an auto repair shop. If we do something wrong, people can get hurt, so we are picky about who we hire.

It is easy to find people who can turn a wrench, follow simple instructions, or do the same thing all day long. But what we need are people who can think on their own, and can still follow detailed instructions. We need people who can understand how equipment works, and figure out why it isn’t working. We need people who will call the customer before driving to their shop, who will report to the office after every service call, and who can string together more than 3 words to explain what they did and what parts they used.

Our technicians work a 4 day week. After they are trained, there is an option to be dispatched from home. If you are not comfortable working on your own, this is not the right job for you. If you need to be shown how to do something 12 times before you can do it yourself, this is not the job for you. If you can use your bicycle repair skills to fix the landing gear on a B2 bomber, talk to us.

In addition to working a 4 day week, technicians get overtime if they want it, receive 100% healthcare coverage, get a company truck, can be dispatched from home, have paid vacation and sick leave, flexible work schedules, and start at $35 an hour with no direct experience. Those with experience will obviously make more.

Technicians need to have at least 5 years experience doing something in the trades. We need to know you won’t stick your finger in a socket without at least licking it first. Technicians also need a clean driving record, because insurance is expensive. Most importantly, technicians must be able to follow procedures when nobody is looking. We expect technicians to make some mistakes in the field, like “Oops, I didn’t know the fitzjammer had a blobbengupper attached to it.” Those are OK, because let’s be honest, not many people know about fitzjammers. But routinely not writing down the model and serial number because “I forgot”, is a very big No-No.

Please send us a resume along with a cover letter using the word “fitzjammer” that will let us know you read this ad and aren’t just sending the same response to every ad that had the word Technician in it. Better yet, give us an accurate definition of a fitzjammer and we will make you an honorary member of the Blobbengupper Society. All applications following these instructions will get a thoughtful reply. Other applications receive less attention.
