POSITION SUMMARY:
The Instructional Coach supports family childcare educators’ efforts to continuously improve the quality of their programs and to create the best experiences for children. Coaches partner with San Francisco Quality Connections to provide a framework, standards, and quality improvement supports for early learning programs across the city. They support programs via an array of services, including individualized coaching, training, facilitated peer support and small group learning, establishing defined quality improvement goals linked to each provider’s unique vision for their program. In addition, they contribute to the development of new resources and support approaches, combining their knowledge of early childhood education and adult learning.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Instructional Coach’s core responsibilities are to work in collaboration with our FCC Incubator team and partner agency coaches to build the capacity of FCC educators in developing specific skills and implementing practices that will ultimately lead to positive outcomes for children in their care.
In the context of the responsibility, the Coach will:
- Facilitate training and small group cohorts of FCC educators to foster knowledge of best practices.
- Provide coaching and modeling, integrating observation, reflection, and feedback
- Encourage and support FCC educators to develop goals for program improvement and translate those goals into actionable Quality Improvement Plans that are aligned to Quality Standards put forth by OECE and other Quality Partners.
- Assist FCC programs to understand and engage with community supports; mental health, Inclusion, Help me Grow, Public Health and others
- Support FCC educator’s efforts to interpret assessment and child screening tool data to inform ongoing program improvement
- Design curriculum, training, and resources based on educator needs and linked to system-wide quality improvement goals
- Collaborate with internal and external partners and teams to coordinate services for FCC educators; develop and facilitate linkages to city-wide professional development opportunities
- Participate in professional development opportunities with other coaches, community partners to keep up to date on current standards of best practices.
- Develop and maintain project work plan, budgets and reports to ensure grant requirements are met.
- Gather, track and report data related to the delivery of coaching and professional development entering data into required information management systems and creating quarterly reports for funders.
- Identify and ensure continuous improvement related to internal processes and program design and delivery to improve the value and quality of programming.
- Keep abreast of new developments and evolving best practices related to building the capacity of ECE educators and programs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5 + years’ experience in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, or related field
- Must be fluent in both written and verbal Cantonese and English
- Knowledge and experience with Family Child Care programs and supports
- Proficiency with childcare assessment tools, such as FCCERS, CLASS, DRDP, an expertise with curriculum development, dual language learning, inquiry-based learning, quality improvement planning, implementation, and systems
- Specialization/certification in Developmental Assessment, Curriculum Development, California CSEFEL/Teaching Pyramid, or Infant Toddler Specialization, e.g., PITC certified
- Demonstrated understanding and high-level experience working with adult learning concepts and strategies, experience developing and delivering training, coaching, and peer learning facilitation for adult learners. Experience with reflective practices, activity-based education, and translating abstract concepts into practical, hands on learning events
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products including excel and PowerPoint, zoom, and are comfortable with using technology to improve interactions with clients and the processing of forms and documentation.
- Project management skills such as using effective time management tools and processes; ability to plan new projects through to delivery, reflection, and reporting; data entry through to report creation for funders, and overall ability to understand goals and impact and how to create programming that achieves those goals.
- Must have flexibility to work some evenings and weekends
- Must be comfortable, and able to travel within all San Francisco communities (reimbursement provided)
- A background clearance is required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit at a desk for extended amounts of time
Ability to stand for extended amounts of time.
Manual dexterity to use office equipment; the ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods of time.
Physical agility to lift and carry materials, bend, stoop, walk and reach overhead.
COVID Policies
All staff are required to be fully vaccinated (barring application for medical or religious exemptions). Wearing masks in the office is optional for our staff.
Hybrid Work
This position is 100% remote as the nature of the role requires you to travel within San Francisco communities, working some evenings and weekends as needed. You will need to come into the office 1-day a month. All applicants should be comfortable with both the remote and in office scenarios.
