At Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB), you can use your valuable skills and have a powerful impact in helping clients achieve their independent mobility goals. As a Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist at one of our beautiful campus locations in Boring, OR or San Rafael, CA, you will support new and existing clients in meeting O&M requirements for admission, provide direct O&M instruction to clients, and assist with administration of our O&M Immersion Program.

What you’ll do:

Provide direct O&M instruction to clients, including foundational O&M skills, long cane assessments and instruction, functional low vision and hearing evaluations, assistive technology training relevant to independent travel, and advanced training in complex intersections and travel environments

Assist with data collection and outcome measurements for the OMI Program and participate as a member of the review committee

Assist with planning and organizing O&M seminars and provide education and training to O&M specialists

Participate in Guide Dog Experience days and other outreach events

Give professional presentations about O&M and guide dog mobility at conferences and conventions

The qualifications you’ll need:

Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) required

Experience working with a broad range of clients in residential and in-home settings preferred

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to work independently, multi-task, and follow through and complete projects

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a diverse constituency where sensitivity and confidentiality are critical

Telephone interviewing experience preferred

Spanish bilingual, and/or bicultural expertise highly desirable

Ability to travel up to 30% of the time

Pay Range:

$33 - $40/hour in Oregon

$39 - $47/hour in California
