Looking for a full-time Legal Assistant for a small firm located in DT San Leandro, CA. Primary areas of practice include Family Law, Probate, Estate Planning, Trust Litigation, and Personal Injury.
Legal Assistant experience required. This position is a unique opportunity to gain valuable, first-hand legal experience while working directly under multiple attorneys. Looking for someone who is hard-working, organized, detail-oriented, and is a self-starter who is looking for a long-term place to call home. This is an in-office position.
Requirements:
1+ year experience working in a law office;
Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Friendly attitude and good phone etiquette;
Familiarity with legal concepts, documents, and terminology;
Strong secretarial skills (70+ WPM);
Bilingual (Spanish) a plus;
Computer literacy and familiarity/fluency with Adobe, Excel, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Essential Forms, including eFiling; and
Court website experience in retrieving and following Local Court Rules, tentative rulings, orders and reserving court hearing dates.
Responsibilities:
Work closely with the attorneys;
Manage, update, and enter calendar deadlines, including court dates and statutes of limitation;
Draft legal correspondence and other documents;
Prepare, maintain, and update case files to ensure efficiency, organization, proper case management, and understanding of case status by other employees and attorney;
Prepare and respond to written discovery, catalog evidence, and organize evidence in anticipation of trial;
Prepare pleadings; and
Performing other duties as assigned.
