Pine House Edible Gardens is an edible landscape design, installation and maintenance company providing organic care to private residential clients throughout the greater SF Bay Area. We are seeking an experienced Senior Ornamental Maintenance Gardener Assistant for full time employment who is committed to upholding the above social equity values in our work place. The gardener will work both as a part of a small team and independently, to provide organic care and maintain the health and beauty of integrated edible and ornamental landscapes.

Job Description:

The Senior Ornamental Garden Maintenance Gardener takes the lead on maintaining and enhancing ornamental and fruit tree plantings at client gardens. They will also provide site specific expert advice and guidance to other gardeners on the team regarding ornamental maintenance approaches for various client gardens. This role involves assessing garden conditions, recommending maintenance practices, and collaborating with clients and maintenance teams to ensure the highest standards of garden care. This may include but is not limited to: aesthetic pruning; shaping; staking, organic pest control care; organic fertilizing; irrigation setting and troubleshooting; and making plant replacements.

The Senior Ornamental Garden Maintenance Gardener will collaborate with the design and installation teams to ensure seamless transitions from installation project completion to regular maintenance while complying with safety regulations and company policies.

Job responsibilities and duties:

Conduct on-site assessments of ornamental gardens to evaluate their condition and identify maintenance needs

Perform regular skilled maintenance of ornamental gardens, including some perennial edibles such as fruit trees

Advise on plant care, pest management, pruning, fertilization, and other horticultural practices

Collaborate with maintenance teams to implement and oversee recommended maintenance activities

Educate clients on best practices for maintaining ornamental gardens, including seasonal care and long-term planning

Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in ornamental horticulture

Develop and deliver some limited training programs for maintenance staff on ornamental garden care

Maintain accurate records of client consultations, recommendations, and maintenance activities

Address client inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally

Assist in sourcing and selecting plants, tools, and materials for ornamental garden maintenance

A gardener can move up in the pay scale by demonstrating skilled care of and advice for gardens which maintains or increases the health and overall aesthetic of Pine House client gardens. Additionally by: demonstrating leadership in developing and following through with action on in garden projects as well as team protocols for general maintenance practices; establishing strong verbal and written communication with our team as well as with clients.

Qualifications/Skills/Attributes:

-Ornamental/landscape professional experience required, 6+ years ideally.

- Applicants will need a valid CA driver's license, clean DMV record, a working cell phone, and appropriate work attire

- Reliable, motivated, hard working, on time, efficient

- Can work independently and as part of a small team of 2-3 gardeners

-Detail oriented and able to follow directions

-Good communication skills and positive attitude

-Willingness to learn and share knowledge

-Maintain great client relations

- Love growing food and being outside all day rain or shine!

- Be physically fit

- Be able to safely lift and carry heavy or awkward loads up to 50 lbs. and perform repetitive physical tasks

- Have a basic familiarity with landscaping tools and equipment

- A vehicle you can use to transport yourself as well as plants and tools to job sites (we have two company trucks for carrying garden materials, but sometimes the team needs to travel separately in personal vehicles with mileage reimbursement applying)
