Part-Time FOH Team Member @ Poppy Bagels

Poppy Bagels is looking to add a part-time FOH team member to our team starting this month. This role is ideal for someone who is hard-working and wants to be part of a tight-knit operation with room to grow. We are busy and maintain a small team, so you must be reliable. Ideal candidates have professional food experience (and love bagels!) and we are looking to fill our team with people who have that magic combination of being both team players but also independent workers who take pride and ownership in whatever they do. Attention to detail is also a must-have: we are striving for consistency and high quality service day after day.

Basic Spanish skills are a huge plus!

JOB DESCRIPTION

Runs the Square register on a daily basis. This includes interacting with customers, fielding questions, and taking orders accurately.

Learns the menu and bagel-making process in order to answer customer questions.

Calls out orders.

Monitors bagel inventory and communicates with the kitchen to maintain a good service flow and give accurate wait times.

Preps cold brew, lemonade, ice tea and any other batched drinks or syrups. Serves drinks to customers.

Carefully bags catering and preorders, ensuring all items are accounted for.

Makes sure menus are up-to-date including in the shop, on the POS system and online.

Keeps cold case and paper good stocked.

Maintains a clean front-of-house area, including cleaning up any tables, sweeping, taking out the trash and maintaining bathroom hygiene during service. Then thoroughly cleans the FOH areas at the end of the day.

Closes register and maintains cash logs.

Keeps paper goods & packaging stocked and organized in storage areas. Can comfortably lift up to 25lbs.

Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Helps with dishes as needed (a shared responsibility!)

PAY, HOURS, BENEFITS

We are looking to fill one part-time position 2-3 days a week with the option to pick up shifts. You MUST be available mornings and both SATURDAY & SUNDAY!

Pay is $18/hr + an equal house tip share based on hours worked (tips average +$9-10 additional/hour for a combined hourly rate of $27-28/hr).

We currently offer employees up to 3 days of PTO which accrue over the year. Plus, employees with us for over three months will receive additional time off when the shop closes for break.

Shift meal, all the coffee you want and access to any of the day’s extras/leftovers. 30% off on all other orders.

Employer-sponsored retirement plan.

We will pay for your food handler’s certification if you don’t have it or need to renew during your time with Poppy Bagels.

Sick time accrued according to Oakland, CA law.

Our bagels have the taste and chew of an east coast bagel while using as many locally-sourced and high-quality ingredients as possible. We use organic flour, get our cream cheese from a nearby dairy, source many of our bagel toppings from a local spice shop, and often rotate in seasonal specials.
