Mujiri Oakland has become a staple affordable Japanese Restaurant in the East Bay and Bay Area. We are a fast pace Japanese restaurant specializing in traditional Edomae-style sushi with dine in and take out options. With growing popularity, we are fortunate enough to have been able to open our second location in Hayward. As we grow, we hope to find the right people to join our team.
Position: Head Chef
Location: Mujiri Oakland
Type: Full-Time
Compensation: Depending on experience, $30-$40hr plus great tips
What You'll Do:
Lead and mentor a talented team of sushi chefs.
Design and execute an innovative sushi menu with a focus on quality and presentation.
Ensure the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness.
Source the freshest ingredients and maintain strong vendor relationships.
Collaborate with management on menu planning, pricing, and promotions.
What We’re Looking For:
Proven experience as a Sushi Chef, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Mastery of traditional and modern sushi techniques, including knife skills and creative plating.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and maintain a positive, energetic work environment.
A deep understanding of food safety regulations and best practices.

Position: Sushi Chef
Location: Mujiri Oakland
Type: Part-Time
Compensation: Depending on experience, $25-$30hr plus great tips
What You'll Do:
Break down whole fish and prep work
Ensure proper station set up and food execution
Clean, multi-task, and organized working habits with attention to detail
Be able to execute consistent products based on the recipes and procedures
Maintain food safety and sanitation, compliant with Department of Health standards
What We’re Looking For:
Comprehensive knowledge of Japanese cooking techniques and ingredients
Must have prior knowledge in preparing and making sushi (nigiri, sashimi, as well as rolls)
Self-driven work ethic and a desire to learn and grow
Able to follow instructions and have attention to details
Must have a positive attitude and enjoy a team driven atmosphere
Outstanding guest service skills
Position: Server
Location: Mujiri Oakland/Hayward
Type: Part-Time/Full-Time
Compensation: Minimum wage plus great tips
What You'll Do:
Greet and seat customers in a friendly and efficient manner
Take customer orders accurately and enter them into the POS system
Handle cash transactions and operate the cash register
Provide excellent customer service and address any customer concerns or inquiries
Serve food and beverages to customers in a timely manner
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the dining area
Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth food service
Assist with opening and closing duties as needed
What We’re Looking For:
Previous experience in a similar role preferred but not required
Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively
Proficiency in operating a cash register and handling cash transactions
Basic math skills for calculating bills, making change, and processing payments
Knowledge of food safety regulations and practices
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers and team members
