Summary

Supervises and coordinates activities of the Staff Accountants. These positions are engaged in the preparation and analysis of financial statements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Compiles composite reports from individual reports of subordinates required by management or government agencies.

Supervises and participates in preparing and auditing materials requiring analyses of supporting documents and ensures that all entries are entered into the system properly. Ensures that staff meets all month end close deadlines.

Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies, determining appropriate corrective procedures.

Communicates and coordinates accounting policies, practices, and procedures with department and company managers and officials, reporting agencies, clients, and the public.

Develops accounting processes for new programs developed in other departments.

Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.

Issues written and oral instructions.

Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.

Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.

Performs annual performance reviews for all direct reports.

Inherent in each position is the general duty to maintain each respective work area in a safe and sanitary condition. Regular, predictable, full-time attendance is required as an essential function of this position. The employee may be required to perform other such duties within the scope of their employment as may be assigned. The employee must also possess the ability to take direction, follow instructions, work with others, follow work rules and schedules, and focus on details.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 3 to 4 employees in the Accounting Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting from four-year college or university and five (5) years or more related experience and/or training, including management experience.

Proficiency with MS Office products, including intermediate to advanced Excel and Access skills. ERP experience preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software, Relational Database and Word Processing software.
