Summary of Job Details

Under general supervision provide laboratory and field support for research studies on invertebrate and surf zone fish communities of sandy beach ecosystems.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Ecology or related field.

4-6 years Experience in and ability to perform quantitative ecological sampling of marine biota and accurately process biotic samples and videos in the laboratory

1-3 years Experience using statistical programs to generate datasets, produce data summaries and conduct analyses

Maintain a valid CA driver's license, a clean DMV record and enrollment in the DMV Employee Pull-Notice Program Upon Hire

University Research Diver Certified (AAUS) to 60 feet Upon Hire

Taxonomic knowledge of local marine flora and fauna and ability to identify fish, invertebrates and marine algae in the field and laboratory

Experience processing video and quantitative samples of marine biota in the laboratory.

Ability to accurately record and perform QA/QC on data from field observations, video and laboratory samples.

Ability to work in challenging weather conditions in exposed locations to perform field research duties

Experience in and ability to perform quantitative ecological sampling of marine biota. Experience conducting quantitative field surveys of biota of sandy beaches and surf zones.

Special Conditions of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check

Maintain a valid CA driver’s license, a clean DMV record and enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program
