With a mission to enhance the quality of life in San Francisco for residents, visitors and business owners, Public Works is committed to providing outstanding public service through an equity lens.Please visit the “About Us” section of our website athttps://www.sfpublicworks.org/aboutto learn more about the department’s core values, Racial Equity Initiative, leadership team, history, budget and more.Public Works currently has two (2) Temporary Provisional vacancies for the Electrician (7345) within our Bureau of Building and Street Repair (BBSR).Bureau of Building and Street Repair (BBSR)oversees paving and street repair work, sewer repair, patch paving and pothole fixes; installation of traffic control devices (speed humps, raised crosswalks, speed tables); installation/modification to catch basins, manholes and culverts; grinding and paving for installation of ADA curb ramps; ongoing sand clearing from Great Highway roadway and promenade – all with the goal of creating a safer and more resilient city.Under general supervision, the Electrician will perform skilled electrical work in connection with the installation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of electrical systems under 600 volts, machinery, and equipment. And also, the Electrician may exercise work direction over craftsmen involved in such work.Important and Essential Duties:As an Electrician, your duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing electrical distribution systems and devices such as lighting, power circuits, fixtures, transformers, programmable logical controls (PLC), motors, motor controls, process controls, auxiliary lighting systems, life safety systems, electronic controls, relays, regulators, branch circuit breakers, main distribution circuit breakers, irrigation control systems, and other related electrical equipment which may be in confined spaces.

Inspecting and repairing generating equipment and UPS (uninterrupted power supply) and its auxiliary accessories.

Cutting, bending, and installing rigid conduit, electrical metallic tubing (EMT), and pulling current-carrying conductors.

Erecting and using ladders, scaffolds, staging, aerial lift trucks, and light towers.

Communicating via two-way radios and telephones.

May install, maintain, test, and repair traffic signal equipment.

Preparing and submitting reports for time, and material used reports on work accomplished.

Performing material takeoffs for stock replenishment and/or assisting with estimates.

Working Conditions:Nature of work involves physical effort and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, and body; exposure to hazardous environments where injuries may be encountered.Working in a confined space, jail or hospital setting may be required.Minimum Qualifications:Education:Completion of a recognized Apprenticeship program (Inside Wireman Apprenticeship).Experience:One (1) year of journey level electrician experience.License and Certification:Possession of a valid California (Class C) driver license.Substitution:Additional experience as a journey level electrician may be substituted for the required electrician apprenticeship on a year-for-year basis.Six years of inside wireman experience equivalent to journey-level as defined by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers may be substituted for the required experience.Condition Employment:Valid Driver’s License: Applicants must possess a valid State of California driver’s license with no restrictions that would prohibit them from legally performing the essential functions and duties of the role.Verification:Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point during the recruitment and selection process.
