Part-Time Personal Aide for Nonspeaking Autistic Adult

Seeking a personal aide for an adult nonspeaking autistic man based in Vista. Part-time position.

Client is 39 years old and communicates using Spelling to Communicate (S2C). He is seeking a support person to broaden his opportunities for fulfilling activities during 2-3 days per week (exact hours and days to be determined; he is thinking 3-7 hours per day, likely between Wednesday-Friday). This includes transportation and accompanying him to museums, the beach, hikes, etc., and/or possibly supporting his participation (transportation, coursework, socializing) in an adult education program in Carlsbad.

Services needed: communication partner using Spelling to Communicate (training provided); transportation via private vehicle and possibly public transit; supervision to ensure client's safety.

Compensation: $30/hour plus activities expenses (admission fees, etc.)

Requirements: presume competence (client is highly intelligent and wants to be treated like an adult!); willingness to treat client with dignity and respect; access to own vehicle and ability to drive client to activities (valid driver's license!); willingness to learn Spelling to Communicate method; consent to a background check. Preferred: experience and/or education in supporting disabled individuals.
