Baristas for Busy Village Espresso Bars
California, San diego, 92101 San diego USABusy and friendly espresso bar / bakeries (Caffe Positano, on Paseo Delicias and on San Dieguito Road), waking up the Rancho Santa Fe community since 2002, are looking for outstanding baristas. We've been voted 1st place in SD Union Tribune/Rancho Santa Fe Review's Best of North County in the Cafe/Coffee Shop and Bakery categories for the past several years. Why? 'Cause our drinks and pastries are tops, our baristas are excellent, we're fast, and our customers love us!
Been thinking about a better place to work? If you're tired of your current situation or just want something better, where your boss cares, your schedule is predictable, your coworkers are solid and customers are happy to see you, I'd love to talk with you. Baristas tend to like this job a lot - most work here at least 3 years, and since 2002 many have enjoyed this job for 5 to 13 years. Our vibe may just suit you better than ever (and the tips range $5 to $15 per customer-serving hour depending on shift - notably better than most barista jobs! Remember, that's in addition to your paycheck wage :)
Your training here is all about taking you from your present level of skill to the point where you are capable of going fast while maintaining the high level of quality that is our standard. Experienced baristas tend to get there faster, but everybody - regardless of level of barista experience - requires time to become familiar with how we operate, our recipes, shift-tasks, and how everything is laid out and the muscle memory required to go fast.
Friendly, can-do, teamwork attitude and integrity are most important, and barista experience is a big plus. No matter what you already know, we'll train the right person. Maturity, great vibe, getting along with coworkers and stable work experience with good references are super important.
If you're seeing this long after it's been posted, go ahead and respond - we're always looking for good people (and we take care to find them).
We serve our customers the full complement of coffee drinks, blended drinks, teas, and we bake on site. One location also serves frozen yogurt. We're open 7 days a week and some holidays at least in the morning. The proprietor craft-roasts all the coffees in small batches - Yes, we're a Roastery, too! - and we get a lot of love for that java. Check out our IG @CaffePositanoRSF for more pics and Google us for 20 plus years of our story. It's a great atmosphere, and our customers are wonderful!
We were open throughout the entire pandemic and did everything necessary to keep ourselves, our coworkers, and our customers healthy. We all got the jab to help do that AND stay on the job and keep the paychecks and tips flowing. It's a plus if you've done the same :)
Must Be Available at least 4 shifts a week including at least one weekend day - both is better :). We're always busy (tips o' sweetness!), but we have busy weekend shifts to fill as soon our new person (you!) is up to speed.
Shifts run 5 to 7 hours - a terrific job if you have other obligations (college students, parents etc)
Typical Shift Hours:
We close normally close at 5p (no night-time shifts - Yay!). Following are our "normal" shift times:
Closing shifts (12:45p-6:30p = 1p-5p serving customers + approx 1.5 hrs closing tasks, so usually off the clock by 6:30p) - new employees train in and graduate into closing shifts, where they can get their moves and speed together.
Mid-day shifts (7:15a-2p = 7:30a-1p serving customers + approx 1 hr tasks, so usually off the clock by 2p) are available after you've practiced to the point you're no longer thinking about how to do what you do; your body just knows the moves and your mind is on what's next, managing the line of customers, and shift-tasks.
Morning shifts (5:15a - 12p = 6-10:30a serving customers + 10:30a - 12p tasks, so usually off the clock by noon) - for natural early-birds! - achievable after you're really in the flow.
If you already have solid barista experience, are smart about how you work, learn our operations and recipes well, get along with your co-workers easily and are generally a good human being, we usually have opportunities for you to graduate into earlier shifts quickly. :)
Total weekly hours average 25 to 35 (4 to 5 shifts), with regular opportunities to score longer or extra shifts. After training, you'll settle into a predictable schedule of the number of hours you need that rarely changes week to week; everything just works better when you know what to expect (days of the week, shift times, total hours), right?
Our locations are within 2 miles of each other, and you would be scheduled at both locations and ultimately for a variety of shift times.
This is not a temporary or seasonal job - when you're good, we want to keep you!
Check your commute by using our zip code 92067. Our employees tend to commute from Solana Beach, Encinitas, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Escondido, Poway/Scripps Ranch, Vista, San Marcos, and Oceanside.
Working here gives you an opportunity to learn and do much more than most baristas. Your prospects of landing this job are good if your previous employers will sing your praises and you are responsible and eager to learn our recipes, processes and procedures.
Some things our customers say about the people who work here: good vibes - skills! - "plays well with others" - funny - smart - mature - artsy - hard-core - articulate - enthusiastic - precise - efficient - clean - fast - integrity - musical - easy-going - good judgment - conversational - knowledgeable - detail oriented - interested - engaging - "you always have great people working here".
We are serious about how the business is run while creating a fun, friendly time working together.
