The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is currently hiring an Accounting Supervisorto join our Accounting & Administration team.This individual will perform a wide variety of accounting tasks such as preparing requisitions, maintaining accounting records, entering A/P, debit transactions, and credit card charges into QuickBooks, recording deposits and credit card donations, account reconciliations and month-end journal entries.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Oversees Accounting operations, which include financial accounting, accounts payable, and payroll

- Recruits and hires Accounting staff and conducts performance evaluations.

- Implements training for new hires and identifies training opportunities for current staff

- Oversees the system of internal controls over Accounting functions to minimize risk.

- Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy

Duties/Responsibilities:

- Oversees the preparation of periodic financial statements and the corporate annual report

- Ensures that financial reports comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards

- Assists external auditors and provides required statements and information for the annual audit

- Reviews budget reports and assists other departments to prepare annual budgets.

- Coordinates the preparation of the corporate tax return

- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.

- Complies with local, state, and federal government requirements

- Identifies and recommends updates to accounting processes and procedures.

- Conduct monthly and annual reconciliation of contributions in QuickBooks and donor software (DPO)

- Check daily bank balances & compare with QuickBooks balance; alert Accounting Manager to cash needs

- Prepare daily deposits based on Fundraising and Program Service reports; deposit checks via scanner

- Make trips to bank as necessary re cash transactions

- Run A/P checks; verify the accuracy of the requisitions against the invoices

- Prepare month-end closing journal entries & adjusting journal entries, as needed

- Conduct general ledger reconciliations

- Assist Accounting Manager with departmental reporting

- Assist other department members

- Oversee petty cash account

- Provide support with full cycle payroll and payroll processing, as needed

- Prepare and/or assist with reimbursement claims, as needed

- Assist with audit, review or compliance activities as needed

- Support CFO and Accounting Manager with special projects

- Performs other related duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The ideal individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events. This individual must have stellar written communication and proofreading skills, a high level of personal integrity and confidentially, and must be able to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently. Someone who is a self-starter that enjoys working as part of a team but is comfortable seeking out answers and taking initiative to solve problems and takes advantage of opportunities.

This position will be required to be in the office full-time.

Knowledge of:

- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and double-entry accounting

- Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.

- Microsoft Office applications, including strong Excel and Word skills with general knowledge of PowerPoint and general computer/internet skills.

- GAAP and QuickBooks.

Ability to:

- Work well in a fast-paced environment, utilizing initiative, good judgment, flexibility and high energy.

- Operate a computer and word processing software and other standard office equipment.

- Type accurately at a speed necessary to meet the requirements of the position.

- Organize, set priorities and exercise sound independent judgment with areas of responsibility.

- Work independently.

- Prepare clear, accurate and concise records and reports.

- Organize research and maintain complex and extensive office files.

- Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a four-year college with a Bachelor’s in Accounting or Business, and five (plus) years of prior accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, along with three to five years supervisory experience.
