Payroll Administrator (Part-Time)
California, San diego, 92101 San diego USAOutstanding Biotechnology company seeks Payroll Administrator to support the Senior Specialist, Payroll & Benefits in delivering accurate and timely processing of payroll. The successful candidate must have a proven track record in completing full-cycle payroll processing, knowledge of latest federal and state wage and hour laws and mandatory filing requirements, and experience in performing reconciliations and audits. In addition, the successful candidate must possess strong analytical skills, organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in Excel, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with Accounting, Human Resources, and the rest of the organization.
Essential Duties and responsibilities:
Collect additions and changes to be reported on payroll. This includes, but is not limited to: new hires, terminations, compensation adjustments, benefit deductions, disability and paid family leave reconciliations, time-keeping adjustments and corrections, and garnishments.
Review time and attendance for accuracy and resolve all discrepancies prior to opening payroll.
Compile documentations supporting payroll, research and respond to review-related inquiries, submit payroll, and circulate payroll packages for review and approval.
Register for employer tax ID in new state and local agencies to comply with withholding obligations.
Collaborate with HR on new benefits to determine payroll reporting requirements, impact on time and attendance, impact on earnings and deductions, and other considerations as applicable.
Audit time-off requests to ensure accurate employee balances on a quarterly basis, and process adjustments as needed.
Reconcile quarterly and annual employer tax returns and submit corrections as needed.
Reconcile quarterly and annual payroll balances to Accounting’s general ledger accounts.
Reconcile W2s and off-cycle payroll quarterly and submit corrections as needed.
Monitor updates to federal, state, and local wage and hour laws to identify potential legal risk to the Company and make recommendations on next steps to minimize risk and ensure compliance.
Provide first-class customer service to employees regarding payroll-related inquiries.
Support annual and ad hoc audits.
Perform other duties as required.
Experience and education requirements:
Experience with Paylocity payroll system
5+ years of combined prior payroll and industry experience in a mid-size biotechnology or pharmaceutical company
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Maintain highly confidential client and employee information
Knowledge of California labor law as applicable to wage & hour and coordination of LOA benefits
Ability to work under general supervision in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines; multitask with a sense of urgency between competing tasks
Strong data entry, attention to detail, organization skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with a strong customer service mindset
