Genetic Screening Services Consultant
California, Pasadena, 91101 Pasadena USAJob Summary:This position functions within the Genetic Screening Services Department in a coordinating role in the administration of the state mandated Prenatal Screening Program. Ensure compliance with the Prenatal Screening Program requirements as determined by the California Department of Health Services, Prenatal Screening Branch (GDB).Essential Responsibilities:
Assure proper follow-up of screen positive cases and specimen issues identified through the California State Prenatal Screening Program in communications with our members, customers, contracted providers and the appropriate clinical services and Southern California Kaiser laboratories, including the NAPS (Newborn and Prenatal Screening) section of the Genetic Testing Laboratory.
Serves as liaison with the Prenatal Screening Branch of the California Department of Health Services and Southern California Kaiser.
Prepare reports, communicate program changes to appropriate staff and develop protocols in accordance with state regulations.
Develop and present training and educational programs for appropriate staff and/or members concerning the various aspects of the programs in Genetic Screening Services.
Develop and maintain a contact network of professional staff at the area medical facilities to carry out program directives and maintain program standards.
Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to fellow staff, to our members, and to customers, contracted providers, and vendors.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
Minimum two (2) years previous experience in the area of genetic screening, genetic counseling, obstetrics, public health.
Education
Masters Degree in Genetic Counseling or Public Health.
License, Certification, Registration
Genetic Counselor Certificate from American Board of Genetic Counseling
Additional Requirements:
Excellent communication skills and computer skills.
Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Access Databases, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic medical record.
