Accountant Auditor II - County of Mendocino

The current vacancy is in Ukiah with the Payroll Division and supports the daily operations of the County’s centralized payroll system. this role helps ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time by meeting critical deadlines, which may occasionally require flexible or irregular hours to address unforeseen issues prior to finalizing a payroll run. Candidates will have a working knowledge of payroll-related federal, state, and local laws and regulations, along with an understanding of the rules, terminology, processes, and best practices used to process and maintain centralized payroll and personnel records in a public agency. The ideal candidate will be skilled in preparing accurate and timely payroll records, reports, and related documentation, performing detailed payroll processing and accounting tasks, reconciling payroll transactions, and maintaining balanced payroll-related general ledger accounts.

$73,632.00 - $89,502.40 Annually plus 5% Confidential premium

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

Experience: Four years of accounting and/or auditing experience, preferably in a government agency.

Education: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in accounting or a closely related field. If the major has been in a field other than accounting, at least 15 units of college level accounting courses must have been completed.

Experience: Six years of accounting and/or auditing experience, preferably in a government agency.

Education: Equivalent to an associate degree work in accounting or a closely related field. If the major has been in a field other than accounting, at least 15 units of college level accounting courses must have been completed. Additional years of experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for education.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver’s License

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or closely related field (preferred, not required)

Certified Public Account Certificate (not required)
