Jr. Documentary Filmmaker (freelance)

Do you have a passion for documentary storytelling? Are you a camera nerd? Do you have an editing style? If so, we want to meet you and cultivate your filmmaking skills so that by the time we stop working together, you'll be on your way to becoming a full-time filmmaker. We're looking for a Junior Filmmaker/Editor to join our savvy creative team, which has worked on impactful projects across various platforms.
This role will specifically work in our in-house content creation division, with a focus on documentary-style filmmaking. If you love capturing real stories and piecing together narratives in post-production, this is the perfect role for you.

Responsibilities:
This role is primarily a video shooting and editing role, but the ideal candidate can assist with other aspects of production.
Set up tripods, lighting, and other G&E equipment for shoots.
Operate cameras (ours or yours if you have something relevant) at a high level, ensuring all technical elements are in place.
Perform minor DIT work: upload, organize, and manage footage in the cloud storage system.
Edit documentary-style content into compelling short-form videos for social media and other platforms.
Assist in writing or preparing voiceover scripts.
Participate in creative ideation for documentary stories that stand out.
Occasionally go on runs to gather necessary items for the job (all expenses covered or reimbursed).
Requirements:
Experience with video production and editing.
1+ years of experience in video shooting.
1+ years of experience in video editing.
0-1 years of experience in video producing.
Familiarity with various camera types and video formats.
Strong understanding of digital media file management.
Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro is required; Adobe After Effects is a plus.
Understanding of audio recording & mixing, camera equipment, and HD & 4K workflows.
Confidence in working under tight deadlines and collaborating within a fast-paced production team.
Clear communication skills and a positive attitude.
Gritty, entrepreneurial mindset that doesn't shy away from challenges.
Ability to work independently while contributing to the overall team success.
Flexibility to adapt to new roles and responsibilities as they arise.
Location:
This position is primarily remote (90% of the time), but we will have shoots in Los Angeles and Orange County. If things go well, future shoots may extend to San Diego, Ventura, San Francisco, and beyond. Our team is spread across Los Angeles, with our owner based in Long Beach. A car is required for this role, as travel will be necessary for on-location shoots.
Hours:
This is a freelance work-for-hire position and not a w2 full-time position.
Payments:
$16 an hour based on experience. Day rates may be provided for full days in the field when shooting.
