This position will pay $38.79 - $51.13 hourly. Salary is commensurate with experience.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, the Registered Nurse Sexual Health Clinic will provide culturally competent nursing health care services, in accordance with the legal scope of practice and within established standards of care, policies and procedures.
The Registered Nurse Sexual Health Clinic will assure quality and cost-effective care for clinic patients, and will manage a patient’s course of treatment, and coordinate care with providers and other clinical support staff to ensure quality patient outcomes are achieved within established time frames with efficient utilization of resources. In addition, the RN will work closely with the CMO and Nursing Supervisor to design, implement and monitor workflow processes as it pertains to patient centered medical home (PCMH) implementation, RN only (sexually transmitted infections (STI) treatments, and RN visits for injectable and vaccine administration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sexual Health RN duties:
Ensure that HIV and/or STD screening services provided are done so in a culturally appropriate manner
Monitor STD lab results and schedule individuals who test positive for an STI for immediate treatment on the Sexual Health RN schedule.
Treat patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in a timely manner and according to APLAHW clinical guidelines and established treatment protocol for RNs
Refer individuals who test positive for HIV and/or a STD to Partner Counseling
Services.
Link individuals who test positive for HIV into medical care and ensure that follow-up is conducted with individuals who have tested positive for HIV to ensure that they are successfully linked into care.
Conduct follow-up to ensure that individuals who test positive for an STI have accessed treatment.
Complete the Confidential Morbidity Report (CMR) on all positive STIs and submit to appropriate Public Health Department.
Link/refer individuals who test negative for HIV and/or a STD and are at high risk for HIV and/or STD infection into appropriate prevention programs, substance use treatment programs or mental health programs.
Administer, track and follow HIV/PrEP injectable medications
Maintain HIV and/or STD records to ensure that all documentation as required by funder(s) is kept on file.
Prepare quantitative and qualitative reports as assigned by Nursing Supervisor in a timely manner for DHSP testing program.
RN Clinic Duties:
Provide clinical support to medical providers before and after primary care visits to ensure the timely delivery of quality medical care.
Triage patients who walk in to the clinic or call with acute medical concerns
Prepare and administer medications as directed by health care provider order following established protocols.
Monitor patient flow by ensuring timely rooming of patients by assigning/directing other ancillary personnel as needed.
Assist Nursing Supervisor with onboarding/training new Medical Assistants
Be point person for Medical Assistants who have questions and/or need guidance.
Verify medications/vaccines given by MAs
Perform patient care functions, within the scope of competency, considering age related needs of the patient as prescribed by health care provider(s) following established protocols, policies and procedures.
Assist medical personnel with special procedures and minor outpatient clinical procedures.
Apply principles of aseptic technique and infection control as directed by the Infection Control Manual.
Provide medical information and education to patients, following established protocols and guidelines as requested by provider.
Document pertinent patient information, assessment and nursing procedures following established protocols.
Ability to skillfully administer oral, IM and subcutaneous medications.
Ability to perform venipuncture with skill, adhering to all OSHA PPE safety requirements.
OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED TO MEET BUSINESS NEEDS.
REQUIREMENTS:
Training and Experience:
A current CA RN license.
Minimum of two years’ experience as RN/LVN or if new RN at least 5-8 years working as a Medical Assistant/ phlebotomist in an Internal
Medicine/Family medical practice a plus.
Experience working in a nonprofit environment a plus; specific training/experience with HIV/AIDS-related issues a plus.
Current certification as an HIV Counselor a plus.
Must have problem solving and organizational skills in order to ensure a productive work environment and achievement of goals.
Skill and knowledge to maintain current RN license.
Knowledge of:
Knowledge and experience working with target populations, including individuals who share injection paraphernalia, gay and non-gay identified men, youth, women, and transgender individuals a plus.
Knowledge and experience working with electronic health records, Eclinical Works preferred.
HIPAA certified and knowledge of informed consent.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of all safety requirements when handling bio-hazardous specimens or contaminated instruments.
Knowledge of referral processing and case management of clinical referrals.
Ability to:
Ability to use computerized patient care systems.
Ability to perform accurate quality control and patient sample testing for waived tests.
Work independently with minimal direction.
Work effectively with diverse staff, volunteers and professionals.
Be at ease and work with a diverse group (ethnic, class, gender, sexual orientation) of individuals who may hold a wide range of opinions regarding prevention needs.
Multitask.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Ensure that HIV counseling and testing (HCT) services have the following qualities: 1) nonjudgmental 2) are harm reduction focused 3) are sex positive 4) are LGBT positive.
Work flexible hours in order to complete tasks and meet client needs.
Ability to be flexible in handling unanticipated client needs is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is primarily an office position that requires only occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting and moving of office materials weighing 25 pounds or less. The position requires daily use of a personal computer and requires entering, viewing, and revising text and graphics on the computer terminal and on paper.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid California driver’s license; proof of auto liability insurance; and have the use of a personal vehicle for work related purposes. Some weekend/evening work may be required. Local travel (within LA County) is required. COVID Vaccination and booster required or medical/religious exemption.
