Description Robert Half is seeking an ambitious Controller to become a vital part at an esteemed construction company. In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, your tasks will include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assessing accounting and internal control systems, and guiding departmental staff. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Larkspur, California region on a hybrid basis- onsite 3 days per weekYour responsibilities in this role
Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection
Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports
Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Manage the general ledger including monthly balance sheet account reconciliation.
Manage subcontractor payables and liens
Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Review deliverables of self and team to align with client expectations
Comfortable in taking on tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash
Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis
Requirements
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Advanced credentials such as a Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller in a Construction company preferred
The ideal candidate will be highly-skilled with exceptional analytical, quantitative and social skills
Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines
Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
Wide ranging experience with Revenue Forecasting
Proven knowledge of account reconciliation
Good understanding of Cash Flow Forecasts
Earlier work involving budget forecasting
General ledger experience
Well-founded grasp of Audit Management
Account reconciliation experience preferred
General familiarity with Audit Functions
Practical knowledge of Sales Tax
Fixed Asset Ledger experience preferred
Bank Account Reconciliation experience
Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
