We have a new opportunity for an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Engineer with emphasis on serving as Deputy Laser Safety Officer for Apple based in Cupertino. The EHS Engineer role will primarily support Apple’s Photonics Safety team through area assessments, design reviews, construction review, evaluating equipment purchase requirements, reviewing R&D experiments, performing various optical calculations and measurements.Key Qualifications

Well versed with the ANSI Z136 standard suites

Proficiency with FDA/CDRH FLPPS,IEC 60825-1 and IEC 62471-1

Expertise with federal reporting requirements - import/export, initial and model change reports and annual reporting

Firm understanding of performing laser/LED calculations (MPE, NOHD, NHZ, OD,…) for various laser/LED types and configurations

Key understanding of product safety requirements associated with industrial laser products

Familiarity with BKMs for addressing LGACs

Firm understanding of laser safety program requirements

Experience performing electro-optical test

Conducting FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis

Self-motivated, pro-active, multi-tasking with creative and critical thinking capabilities

Outstanding communication, report writing and presentation skills

Analytical skills and experience collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

Detailed self-started who can work independently, as well as collaboratively

DescriptionThis role will ensure/establish appropriate area controls for employees working in and around lasers, LEDs and other sources of light. In addition to supporting the laser program, this role also offers the opportunity to support multiple EHS programs, including lab safety, training, data collection/analysis, and audits. This role requires the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and work closely with cross-functional teams.Education & Experience

BS/MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent - 5-10 years technical expertise with lasers and general EHS

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $131,300 and $197,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
