In this job, you will work in the Grid Control Center (GCC) as a lead on a team with the collective responsibility for ensuring SCE electrical system reliability. This position will be secondarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of real-time shift activities and performing real-time system studies, monitoring contingency analysis results, interacting with internal and external agencies, and coordinating emergency actions with California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and/or adjacent utilities. In addition to monitoring all aspects of shift activity, the candidate will provide a leadership and mentoring role for the PSO2s on the crew and also provide an overall leadership, mentoring, training, and counseling role for all PSO2 positions in the GCC.As a PSO3 , your work will help power our planet, reduce carbon emissions and create cleaner air for everyone. Monitor the SCE electrical system using the Energy Management System and various related applications and provide functional direction to SCE Switching Center System Operators and other field personnel.
Monitors interconnected system conditions, SCE and interconnected system line flows, voltages, Remedial Action Schemes, and equipment limits during normal and emergency conditions.
Work directly with the California Independent System Operator (CISO) regarding operation of the SCE electric system, line and equipment outages, schedules, and adjustments to the system.
Responsible for coordinating SCE normal and emergency operating actions with SCE operational and field personnel, other internal departments, the CISO, adjacent utilities, and various external agencies.
Has the authority and is responsible for initiating the curtailment of SCE load, either directly or at the direction of the CISO, to maintain system reliability. The position takes a lead role to initiate SCE actions and provide directions to enhance or re-establish system conditions to a reliable state in accordance with North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC), Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC), CISO and SCE operating protocols.
Responsible for reviewing, comprehending, and applying operational policy and procedural changes in a time constrained atmosphere.
Perform internal and external notifications of system events in accordance with established requirements and acts as the formal representative for GCC management during non-business hours.
Will participate in the required internal and external training courses.
The position will provide support for the GCC Trainer on various GCC Training activities, including GCC seminars, GCC SOTC training classes, and other training requirements, as needed.
Provide support to GCC Management, including assisting in the development, interpretation, and implementation of GCC operational policy and procedures.
QualificationsThe essentials
Eight or more years of experience in bulk power transmission, sub-transmission, and distributions systems operations.
Experience analyzing electric system operating conditions by utilizing energy management system (EMS) applications and advanced computer applications.
Ability to obtain NERC System Operator certification at Reliability Coordinator Level in 3 months or less
The preferred
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
NERC System Operator certification at Reliability Coordinator Level.
Experience in monitoring and overseeing all aspects of shift activity and providing leadership for a team at the SCE GCC that is responsible for ensuring reliable operation of the SCE electric system in a real-time environment.
Experience in making real-time decisions regarding operation of the SCE electric system that may have a direct effect on system reliability or SCE as a corporation
Operational knowledge of the SCE and relevant neighboring utility electrical systems to ensure reliable interconnected system operations.
You should knowThis position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.
