Summary Provides support to the operation of the Laboratory by assisting with pre-analytical and post-analytical processes resulting in optimal patient outcomes. Responsible for assigned shifts and subject to overtime and call back as required. Performs other duties as assigned.Responsibilities

Performs phlebotomy and specimen collections.

Assesses and maintains quality of specimens.

Communicates with patients and customers.

Requirements, Preferences and Experience EducationMinimum: Skill in communicating clearly and effectively using standard English in written, oral and verbal format to achieve high productivity and efficiency. Skill to write legibly and record information accurately as necessary to perform job duties.ExperiencePreferred: Hospital phlebotomy experience.Special SkillsPreferred: Skill in communicating clearly and effectively using standard English in written, oral and verbal format to achieve high productivity and efficiency. Skill to write legibly and record information accurately as necessary to perform job duties. Computer skills.Minimum: Basic computer literacy. Demonstrated competency in: -Performing pediatric phlebotomy procedures (heel stick, finger stick, venipuncture) -Knowledge of the various needle sizes as to gauge, length, and purpose -Knowledge of the types of evacuated tubes by color code, the anticoagulants & additives present -Knowledge of the factors that influence the integrity of a blood specimen -Proper label application -Knowledge of why blood should not be drawn from a hematoma, burned or scarred area, or an arm adjacent to a mastectomy.TrainingPreferred: Training as acquired in an approved phlebotomy training program.Minimum: Completes Baptist phlebotomy training and is deemed competent in the job tasks of a ASSISTANT-TECHNICAL LAB II.About Baptist Memorial Health Care At Baptist, we owe our success to our colleagues, who have both technical expertise and a compassionate attitude.
