WHO ARE WE?

- We serve over 1300+ meals daily. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday Brunch.

- We have over 170+ Food Service Staff Members and we are growing.

- We have 12 onsite dining rooms, including Café Grill Dining, Casual Dining, Buffet Dining and High-End Scale Dining. Some dining rooms are small (seating for 40+) and some are large (seating for 100+).

- We have a brand-new beautiful coffee bar.

- We have 7 kitchens, including 1 kitchen measuring at 4500 square feet and several smaller kitchens too. Some of our smaller kitchens only hold 2-10+ cooks and dishwashers per shift. Some of our larger kitchens hold 30-40+ cooks and dishwashers per shift.

- We have a brand-new Culinary Building consisting of a 3200 square foot state-of-the-art culinary kitchen, including Award Winning high-end Hestan Appliances. Attached are 3 brand new restaurants, (named Indigo, Copper Skye and Azul) including outdoor seating with waterfalls, glass fire pits and lovely outdoor acoustics.

- We have a stone pizza oven that was hand made in Italy just for Royal Oaks. It was shipped over on a barge ship that took several months to arrive. Master your pizza skills learning to cook in this magnificent stone pizza oven.

- We have an Executive Chef and 4 Sous Chefs, all of which were promoted from our internal cooking staff members. You too can grow with us!

- We have several cooks that have been working at Royal Oaks between 15 to 38 years each!

- We have a large Catering Department for onsite private events for our residents and staff members serving over 100+ on-campus events every year! Some events are very small, some rather large! Some indoors and some outdoors.

- We are only 1 of a hand-full of Retirement Communities in AZ that have robots serving hot plates of food to our residents in our 12 dining rooms.

- Our Executive Chef Francelle Mata was recently promoted into her current role. She worked at Royal Oaks the last 4-years under Executive Chef Paul Kennedy. Chef Francelle has honored Royal Oaks by presenting at Wine Pairings, Wine Tastings, and Cooking Demos ranging from small groups and up to 200+ guests too! She has frequently done cooking events for casual and fine dining in Scottsdale. She prides herself by saying she likes to hire her kitchen staff who have "open minds and brings their ideas." One of her most often used comments is, "If you are willing to learn, we are willing to teach." Because she moved up through various Royal Oaks kitchen positions, she feels like she makes a difference in her cooking career of over 20 years.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Dining Room Supervisor, provide high quality customer service during all events including accurate accounting of all transactions, including inventory. Prepare standard mixed drinks and pour wine and beer. Provides high quality, friendly service to residents and guests of Royal Oaks in the dining areas and at special functions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for preparing drinks quickly, accurately, and without waste.

Serve and interact with residents and guests. Be friendly and enjoy mingling with customers. However, still must work quickly to handle a large volume of drink orders and be familiar with the ingredients for special drink requests.

Sets up and services individual beverage locations.

Check identification of guests to ensure they meet the minimum age requirement for the purchase of alcohol.

Properly handle cash or tickets. Accurately verifies all cash and liquor inventory with supervisor on a daily basis.

Verifies cash register is programmed properly, according to Royal Oaks approved prices.

Enforce all liquor laws. Bartenders must be aware of state and local laws concerning the sale of alcoholic drinks. Responsible to make sure customers do not drink too much alcohol.

Attends to residents’ and guests needs when delivering beverages and checks to ensure guest satisfaction. Greets residents and guests in a friendly manner within two minutes of being seated.

Verify and account for all liquor inventory on a daily and monthly basis.

Follow proper safety practices in the work area.

Order and maintain liquor, beer and wine inventory; stock and prepare garnishes for drinks; maintain an adequate supply of ice, glasses, and other bar supplies; and keep the bar area clean and sanitized. Washes the glassware and utensils after each use.

Develop and maintain attractive displays out of bottles and glassware.

Controls usage of all beverage items as well as correct usage of equipment, tools, and service products by bar staff. Conducts monthly inventory, maintaining established guidelines.

Reports to in appropriate clean and pressed uniform, for assigned location.

Consistently complies with Arizona State Department of Health Service standards. Ensures the safe and proper handling of all food items according to HACCP. Adheres to safety practices and procedures.

Attends shift meetings according to shift schedule.

Keeps the Food Service Management Team promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance.

Maintains confidentiality for resident to meet HIPAA guidelines.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Full understanding of residents’ rights, including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse. Is responsible for promptly reporting to the Director of Health Services, Director of Resident Services, or Chief Executive Officer (CEO) incidents or evidence of resident abuse or a violation of residents’ rights.

Addresses problems and conflicts in a professional and effective manner with supervised staff, allowing for opportunities of learning and growth, and facilitating such opportunities in a respectful manner.

Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment. Reports all deficiencies to the appropriate person, such as equipment problems, need for repair or special needs of residents.

Exhibit qualities of a team player and interacts courteously, appropriately with patience and concern for the needs of the elderly and maintains a positive attitude while interacting with residents, guests, families, and co-workers.

Attends and participates in training activities, meetings and seminars and assists other departments as needed.

Knowledge and Skills:

Must have basic working knowledge of cash register and cash handling procedures.

Must have sufficient math ability to accurately count and handle money.

Must have basic working knowledge of bar operation.

Must have ability to follow directions and effectively perform the work.

Must speak and understand English well enough to converse with customers, supervisors and employees.

Maintain a pleasant, agreeable personality

Is organized, able to multi-task, think creatively and adapt to different situations.

Maintain a positive, customer service oriented attitude at all times.

Strong knowledge of sanitary practices.

Work ethic encourages strong urgency and quality in a team environment.

Education and Experience:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must be TIPS Certified within 30 days of employment. We will assist you with this free of charge.

Obtains a Maricopa County food handler’s card within 30 days of employment. We will assist you with this free of charge.

Preferably has a high school diploma or GED equivalent

Preferably has experience working in a formal dining environment.

Communication Skills:

Has a clear speaking voice, and is fluent in English.

Has ability to speak, work, and interface with all levels of co-workers, residents, guests, and employees.

Has ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Demonstrates excellent customer service etiquette.
