Division Objective

To ensure that transit services are staffed by trained operators and up and running safely on a daily and to serve as a communication link for internal and external customers

Job Purpose of a Transit Operator- Underfill (Driver)

Transit Operators are the company’s ambassadors reflecting our values and guiding principles, transporting customers in a safe, timely manner to their destination within the City of Flagstaff. Operator staff have a profound understanding of the following: streets and common destinations to aid in trip planning, ability to schedule pick up/drop off of on-demand passengers, transportation equipment, safety checks, and DOT requirements as a function of operating on city streets. Staff is charged with safe vehicle operations and interacting with customers in an often-fast paced environment. Staff will utilize excellent communication skills, both written and oral, customer service, and decision-making skills to operate efficiently and adhere to a strict routing timetable.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

o Act as an Operator for both bus and paratransit services

o Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment is mechanically sound and completes all documentation as required

o Maintains knowledge of and adherence with all Mountain Line policies, procedures, and safety requirements

o Responsible for safe operation of transit vehicles and adherence to traffic regulations

o Provides safe, timely and courteous service to all Mountain Line passengers particularly those with mobility challenges

o Engage and support a culture of workplace safety

o Responsible for operation of transit vehicles in inclement weather safely, while adhering to all regulations including FTA, ADA, and traffic laws

o Prepares accurate, respectful, timely, and legible documentation when needed, including but not limited to accident and incident reports

o Responsible for honest, accurate, respectful, and trustworthy communication with passengers and co-workers

o Provides exceptional customer service to all Mountain Line passengers in accordance with Mission and Vision.

o Maintains a professional company image, while working in cooperation with City of Flagstaff and Coconino County representatives

o Attend scheduled trainings and meetings as a component of the Transit Operator position.

o Understanding of current passes and fares, assist customers with paper fare solution

o Assist with passenger questions concerning pass operations, changing policies, and riding procedures.

o May perform on the job training for new operators
