Position Summary:The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), School of Allied Health seeks an innovative, energetic individual who will work in a collaborative teaching environment in the delivery of Allied Health courses in the UAA Speech Language Pathology (SLP) programs. The faculty member appointed to this position will provide advising to prospective and current students as well as didactic, laboratory, and clinical education to students enrolled in the SLP programs. The faculty member will contribute to the structure and daily operation of the program and clinic, including organization, administration, periodic review and evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of program curricula.Duties:100 Teach up to 15 workload units per 9-month contract Contribute to student learning and assessment of student/program competencies. Maintain office hours according to contractual guidelines. Write and update course syllabi, and assist with curriculum review, revision, assessment, and development. Maintain departmental integrity of student records. Contribute to the improvement of the department, college, university, and community through active involvement in committee work. Engage in professional development in the field of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Attend department meetings and engage in continuous quality improvement. Work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse student population and university staff within the scope of the missions of the University of Alaska Anchorage and College of Health. Active involvement with the professional organization is encouraged. Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of the School of Allied Health. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:Knowledge of contemporary curricular content for the education of the DMS students with expertise in specific content area(s) based on the individual’s background.Ability to teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students, affective and cognitive competencies using various diverse pedagogical methods to engage students in learning, such as lecture presentations, clinical simulation and assessments, clinical instruction and evaluation, curriculum management system (e.g. Blackboard) applications, research, and the ability to teach using online modalities.Application of educational theory and methodology for curriculum development, student evaluation and outcome assessmentStudent evaluation and student/program outcomes assessmentStrong written and oral communication skillsComputer literacy, MS PowerPoint and MS Word.Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and professionally with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and the public.Ability to work effectively on a faculty team, as well as function independently.Commitment to and the ability to work effectively within the scope of the College of Health mission and to work with a diverse student and staff populationTypical Experience:Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in the disciplinePreferred Qualifications:A minimum of two years of teaching experience in DMS Program or 2 years clinical experience in professional discipline. Preference may be given to an applicant who has a minimum of one year of experience as an instructor in a DMS program and 2 years clinical experience in professional discipline.Proficient in clinical supervision and evaluation, instruction, curriculum development and academic advisingARDMS certification in AB, OB/GYN, BR and RVTPrevious experience with an online learning platform (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).Required Education or Training:Minimum of an Associate’s Degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in Sonography or related fieldARDMS (AB, OB/GYN) or ARRT Certification in Sonography in good standingSalary Information: This is a part-time (51%), Term Instructor or Term Assistant Professor position complete with both a competitive salary andfull employee benefits package (https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php) .
