Yellowstone National Park is the world’s first National Park known for its wildlife and geothermal features, spanning over two million acres in the States of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. Xanterra Parks & Resorts is honored to operate the country’s largest concessioner contract encompassing hotels, campgrounds, retail, food & beverage operations and recreation activities on behalf of the National Park Service. The complex operation includes nine hotels, five campgrounds, more than thirty food & beverage outlets, retail operations, extensive recreation programs including marina, stables, bus tours and a complex support infrastructure including a distribution warehouse, over 400 fleet vehicles, commissary laundry, employee housing & facilities and maintenance of approximately 850 buildings. The operation also manages a complex winter season program including the management of two hotels, over-snow transportation systems, food & beverage, retail, and Nordic ski operations. The Yellowstone operation employs over 3000 employees in high season and is an active partner within the region and the local communities. The Human Resources Director is responsible for the HR initiatives and goals to meet the organization’s business objectives and strategy. This position oversees a large staff and all Human Resources functions including talent engagement, benefits & compensation, compliance, training, employee relations and HR strategic initiatives. Responsibilities:

HR Strategy: Partners with General Manager, Yellowstone Directors, and Xanterra’ s Corporate Human Resources to ensure HR practices support and reinforce the Property’s strategic initiatives and commitments.

Talent Engagement: Oversees the sourcing strategy and recruitment process and initiatives to hire 3000+ seasonal and year round employees including the J1 international program.

Employee Culture: Ensures a thriving employee culture inclusive of development opportunities, recreation programs and a positive living environment (Company owned and operated housing including homes, apartments, dormitories and RV areas).

Learning & Development: Support and partner with the Learning & Development department to ensure training standards are being properly executed and effectively applied in seasonal and full time operations. Partner with stakeholder to identify training needs and provide input on training content.

Employee Communication & Recognition: Establish and administer communication and recognition programs. Ensure any open door policy and manage escalated employee relations issues. Partner with all levels of management in resolving employee relations issues.

HR Administration: Oversee the administration of benefits programs, compensation, performance management, policies & procedures, employee electronic & paper file maintenance and compliance with all applicable federal and state laws.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of previous “hands on” Human Resources management experience ideally with increasing responsibility.
  • Proven track record in successful creation and execution of new programs and processes.

  • In depth HR compliance knowledge.

  • Strong relationship & communication skills. Able to convey ideas verbally and in writing effectively to a variety of audiences and establish effective relationships.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality about all aspects of HR practices.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. Lawson, Kronos and/or iCims experience a plus.

  • Experience in seasonal National Park operations a plus.

  • Bachelor degree preferred.

  • Hospitality experience preferred.

  • PHR/SPHR highly preferred.

  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time – 60% of workday
  • Ability to work in a higher altitude environment – 100% of the workday

  • Ability to climb stairs – 5% of workday

  • Ability to lift boxes of materials of 30 – 50 lbs – 5% of workday

  • Ability to walk, reach, stand, sit, crawl, and lift as necessary to perform job duties as noted.

  • Ability to work in a region where outside temperatures can vary from -40F to 100F depending upon the season-100% of the workday
