SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.

  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.

  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.

  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.

  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.

  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.

  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.

  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.

  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

  • Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

  • Measure performance consistent with the departments KPI's; Sales, Quality, Delivery, Cost.

  • Maintain accurate records using Microsoft Word and Excel and/or Google documents and spreadsheets

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education & Experience

  • 15+ years of machining experience, or Machining certification from an accredited trade school, High school diploma, GED or minimum 3-5 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

Competencies

  • Communication Proficiency

    • Excellent English language written and oral communication skills

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and barcode labels.

    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Technical Capacity

    • Must have experience with tolerances (+/- .001)

    • Must be familiar with Okuma, Fanuc, G-codes, M-codes, lathes and mills.

    • Must be able to understand and properly use inserts, fixtures and tooling.

  • Problem Solving/Analysis

    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form

    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND MEASURES

  • Ensure that assigned orders are completed according to schedule and within budget
  • Maintain quality standards as set forth by Weatherby

  • Meet objective goals assigned during performance coaching.

  • Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.

  • Working expectations: ability to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee will be subject to prolonged standing. The employee must be able to manipulate and assemble small parts. Or this is largely a sedentary role, however while performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Weight requirement: The employee must frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 pounds, and push/pull up to 70 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, this position operates in a manufacturing environment and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in this work environment can be loud. Surrounding the environment is moving equipment, saws, cranes and other equipment that if not used with care can prove to be dangerous
